Story about this misheard lyric by: Karen Smith I heard this on the sound system in a store I was in. The first time this line came up in the song, it seemed to sound to me exactly like "Put another dog in the record machine". Since that wouldn't make much sense, I listened closely to the rest of the song. The second time that line came up, I thought it sounded like "Put another dollar in the record machine". I was thinking for awhile it must be a fairly new song, as that would fit better the cost of playing something on today's record machines! But on listening further, I heard the line at least once more, and the word sounded more like "dime", fitting in an older song better. I got home and searched for the lyrics online, and found my third guess was the charm. The correct lyrics say "dime", and it is a song from the 1960s when a dime would typically play a song on record machines of the time. |
