Story about this misheard lyric by: Ruth Smith One Christmas Eve midnight carol service, my mother had to lean down to make sure she had heard me right as I was enthusiastically belting out at the top of my voice what I was quite sure were the correct words to the Chorus of one of my favorite Christmas carols. My mother was very devoutly religious in a strictly conventional way, & she would have been furious if I had made my mistake deliberately, but as she realized that it was an entirely innocent mistake on my part (age about 4), she was very amused & this became one of her favorite Christmas stories about me. |
