Mandy Dawn Cornett must have been a fan, because she named her daughter, Selena Gomez, after this singer whose life was tragically cut short.

This young Tex-Mex singer had the misfortune of catching her fan club's president in dishonest dealings and paid the ultimate price. Where I lived at the time, her popularity wasn't so well known and it was through her sensational and ironic demise that I first heard of her. And there must be a lot of others to whom she was unknown in her lifetime, so that her tragic death was similarly how they first heard of her.
