Story about this misheard lyric by: Karen Smith Tim O'Brien is a singer I'm not much familiar with. This song has been done by various artists, and his recording is not necessarily my favorite thereof. But my reason for citing him here is that he varies the lyrics somewhat from any version I'm familiar with. In his version, my slight mishearing of "into" for "unto" creates a humorous situation which, had I heard the correct lyrics, could make for a relevant "dated lyrics" entry. This is a rather old song, so I'm guessing it came before the days of gender reassignment surgery. So my mishearing would sound only bizarre when the song was new. But now that gender reassignment surgery is literally possible, my mishearing could suggest the singer is gravely disappointed because someone he really had the hots for shattered his dream by actually turning into a man! |
