Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Phoebe Cummings
That is the gal that killed him c****ing.
Keep 'em coming
That is the gal that'll kill 'dem stunning.
The Story: My mom heard this song and thought he was talking about a porn film, because he kept talking about c****ing. She made me give away all my 311 CDs. I guess she thought my friend's mom wouldn't care about porn film music. I always wondered who Phoebe Cummings was and how she could kill him whlie he was c****ing. That made me very afraid of self- gratification for several years. - Submitted by: Steve-O

You make me nervous, throat dry.
The Story: My cousin went to the University of Alabama, so that's why the Roll Tide part. We couldn't figure out why on Earth it would say that, but we couldn't figure out what else it said, anyway. It's still fun to belt out, even though we know the real words now. - Submitted by: Leslie

"You Wouldn't Believe"
You might think he's a jester
Because he'll make you laugh and you cry
You might think he's a jester
Because he'll make you laugh 'til you cry
The Story: I was all set to submit this to the 'Bad Grammar' section until I looked up the actual lyrics and found out this song DIDN'T have the error I thought it did ("he'll make you laugh and you cry"). - Submitted by: Jonathan S.
