Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Your weak will won't helper-healer-har!
Your weak will won't help her heal her heart.
The Story: My ex noticed this and asked, 'Helper-healer-har?' I never heard the song the same again, even though I never paid attention to the correct lyric. - Submitted by: Topher
But my wings have been sodomized.
And my wings have been so denied.
The Story: I was on the bus and heard a women singing this song while listening to her headphones. It took all I had not to start laughing hysterically. - Submitted by: Steve Edwardsen
Fair-weather friend
Fair well thee, Friend.
The Story: Alice in Chains are from Seattle, the weather is notoriously unfair. Hence, poetic to say that a friend would be a fair weather friend. - Submitted by: Codeman
Like the coldest winter whale
or
Like the coldest winter will
Like the coldest winter chill
The Story: I think of this song every time I play the video game, Super Mario Brothers 2, where you have to leap from one whale to another in a frozen ocean. - Submitted by: Fred
Amen, high school.
Hey man, nice shot.
The Story: For the past 7 years, I've been hearing this song on the radio thinking it was called "Amen High School". Boy, do I feel dumb learning the actual name today. - Submitted by: L.
All is green but no Saint Pat's.
Army Green was no safe bet.
The Story: Long ago when the video for this song was released on MTV (yes, MTV once had VIDEOS!). My friend, Wade, and I (who were in junior high at the time) were up late drinking copious amounts of caffeine. We loved the video, and the song on the CD, but couldn't for the life of us figure out what the lyrics to this passage were. For some reason, 'all is green but no Saint Pat's' fit the Vietnam-lost-depressing theme. We found out later, to our chagrin, that we were stupid. - Submitted by: Robert Weaver
Walking tall, chicken man.
Walking tall, machine gun man.
The Story: I don't know why I actually believed this great band would sing a song about a chicken/man hybrid! Since the day my husband realized this lyric mishap on my part, he calls me from work and turns up the song on the radio at my expense. - Submitted by: Rachel Husky
And do the flutter kick
Into the flood again
The Story: This song was pretty popular when I joined the Army in 1994. The "flutter kick" was one of the exercises that we had to do in basic training. Ever since then I've heard the lyrics as being "and do the flutter kick". Fifteen years later this song still reminds me of that torturous exercise. - Submitted by: wang chung
Help me, I've broken my thighmaster
Know me broken by my master
The Story: I heard it on the radio in my car and thought it was a parody , but came to find out it was the actual song! - Submitted by: Brian
hail to the flood again
Into the flood again.
The Story: the last verse i still swear he says hail to the flood again.. some live audios i have sound that way as well.. i do have lives where he clearly says into the flood again.. but hear the last part before the key change as hail to the flood again.. could be the pitch fooling me but i believe it fits as the last version of the hook.. - Submitted by: hailtotheflood
A rubbed down broke machine, that steals your piece of lime
Before you know it's gone
A rundown broke machine, that steals your peace of mind
Before you know it's gone
The Story: When I was listening to this song when it first came out I sung this, and my brother told me that I was wrong and that these weren't the right lyrics. I tried to tell him that he was wrong and I was pretty sure they were saying "piece of lime." Then one day, he looked up the lyrics online and showed me that he was right all along. It still kind of didn't make sense because isn't "lime" a closer rhyme to "time?" The word "time" was from the line before this one. - Submitted by: Danny Sanchez
But my wings a pencil in hand.
But my wings have been so denied.
The Story: When I was 18, I heard this song for the first time. Not knowing what the real lyrics were, I just rode with it. It sounded weird and I didn’t care. I never actually realized how melancholy this song really was until after the fact. - Submitted by: Steven
But my wings have been so denied
But my wings have been soaked in iron
The Story: No just curious if anyone else hears this or prefers it? I do. - Submitted by: Seth Carbaugh
Jason Kreis (denial maker)
Jesus Christ (deny your maker)
The Story: I was in the car, and I imagined that they were singing about a soccer player. - Submitted by: Flex
