Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

As he come in through the window with a sound of a Christian doe
As he came into the window was a sound of a crescendo
The Story: I was listening and some idiot started singing along so I put my ear right by the speaker not healthy I know but you don't get it this guy has a voice that makes a chalkboard being scratched by a nail sound like an angel yet he thinks he'll be a famous singer. You know that type? Anyways I said wtf and said what I heard and got laughed at. - Submitted by: Frederick T. BalronI
Hand on your monkey, your monkey, your monkey, laddie
Annie are you ok, you ok, you ok, you ok Annie
The Story: Well, I knew this incomprehensable song was written by Michael Jackson; we all know that he likes monkeys, all manner of monkeys, more than could be considered sane or healthy. He hangs out in toy stores after hours with little lads and monkeys. The garbled chorus really sounds like a chant about handling monkeys which, in context, made perfect sense. - Submitted by: Brian Ness
I need Rogaine, Rogaine, Rogaine, I need.
Annie, are you're okay, you're okay, you're okay, Annie?
The Story: I was listening to the song on the radio with my sister and starting singing, 'I need Rogaine' and she cracked up. I looked downright confused and asked her what she was laughing at. She knew what the lyrics were and told me. I felt like such an idiot. - Submitted by: Kitty Ward
She ran into her bedroom,
she was sucked down, to the garden
She ran into the bedroom,
she was struck down, it was her doom
The Story: It was not me who made this mistake, it was my brother, Tom, who was trying to type out the lyrics as he heard them. I opened the file to download the actual lyrics for him and I laughed out loud when I saw what he had put! - Submitted by: Ross Hiscock
Don't be flaithiúlach, you'd better watch the road.
Don't be low, you'd better watch the road.
The Story: It really, REALLY sounds like he's saying flaithiúlach... but I guess it's unlikely that Dryden Mitchell sneaks Gaeilge into his songs. - Submitted by: Elliott
