Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I play God's saint with dirty hands and a heart divided
A plank-eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided
The Story: I didn't actually know the correct words until I saw them on the overhead screen...at the Thrive concert! (Best concert ever, BTW) I was like, oh, that's what they were singing all along. My version kind of makes sense too, though. - Submitted by: Suzanne
Why is His love not showing
Damn there is a way.
Why is His love not showing
Them there is a way.
The Story: The message of the song convicted me to show the love of Jesus even to people I would not normally reach out to. But, whenever the part of the song came along that I misheard, it would always bother me not knowing what the actual word was. I knew the lyrics did not included profanity, but no matter how many times I listened to the song, I always heard 'damn.' Until one day when it finally dawned on my wife they were saying 'them.' Now I can enjoy the song to its fullest. - Submitted by: Chris Brownwell
Radio Cells, Radio Cells.
Or
Ready your sails, ready your sails.
Ready yourselves, ready yourselves
The Story: The former, my sister can’t un-hear. The latter, I can’t un-hear. Neither is right! 😂 - Submitted by: Melissa
The radio says, the radio says
ready yourselves....ready yourselves
The Story: About 5 years ago when this song came out, I regularly heard it on WAWZ "Star 99.1", a Christian radio station in New Jersey. I misheard a line as "the radio says, the radio says", but when I went to a church youth group meeting and heard the song, the real lyrics as shown on the screen were "ready yourselves, ready yourselves". I was stuck in a meta-irony loop for a while after that. - Submitted by: Joe the Crazy Conch
