Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Diana Ross and the Supremes - The Ultimate Collection album at Amazon.com
Outside it's cool
In a One-Ton Dress. That's a story true enough
(That's a story true enough)
I started school,
In a worn torn dress that somebody threw out
(Somebody threw out!)
The Story: I thought I heard inner city Detroit vernacular when I listened to this song. I grew up there in the '70s, and I had no idea what a One-Ton Dress was, but thought it might be a local neighborhood expression. I had heard growing up the expression "That's a story true enough" or in the rough approximation of what I heard "Das a story trunuff" - Submitted by: azchurch
In the UFO.
Oh, that's safe and sound...
In you I put
All my faith and trust
The Story: With all those spaceship sounds, especially around the intro, I couldn't help but think that she was singing this from outerspace! - Submitted by: Julie

Think it over.
The Story: I of course was singing this at work, and being about 4 or 5 at the time it came out I guess I didn't really pay all that much attention to the words. Someone (much older I should add), asked me 'What did you just say?!', after I sang the 'Casa- no-va' part. Needless to say, I was the laughing stock of the office that day. - Submitted by: Tim Quist
Stop! In the name of love
Big boy you break my heart.
Think it o-o-ver.
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart.
Think it o-o-ver.
The Story: I heard this song for DECADES as 'Big boy, you break my heart.' Imagine my utter shock when my wife and daughter told me it was 'before....' I still sing it my way. Deep down, I KNOW Diana said 'Big boy...' - Submitted by: Fred Simmons
