Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I found my freedom
I found my thrill
The Story: Every girl friend I had, including my current wife, thought the last word of the first line of the song was 'freedom'. So I continued the song by singing: 'on Blueberry heedom'. - Submitted by: Peter van Deelen
We looked forward
You wouldn't be still.
Though we're apart
You're part of me still.
The Story: I was about 6 when I first heard this song. I'm 22 now, and for the longest time, I swore this was the way the song went. I thought it was hilarious. I had the habit, still do actually, of singing a song and when I got to a part I didn't know the words to. I would just mumbo jumbo through it and try to make it sound right. I do that a lot with Little Richard too. But still, this is a great song. - Submitted by: J.P. Masiongale
We gotta go for the heroes down the bayou.
Mardi Gras, Swedish spa, me-oh-my-oh.
We gotta go, pole the pirogue down the bayou.
My Yvonne, sweetest one, me-oh-my-oh.
The Story: I was at a party when I heard this playing from Spotify. I was familiar with this song, mainly from the Hank Williams version. I knew of Fats Domino from some of his more familiar songs, like "Blueberry Hill" and "Walking To New Orleans", but on this song I didn't recognize his voice just from hearing it. Fortunately the machine that was channeling Spotify had a potential for displaying song and artist names, and I soon discovered that way who was singing this less familiar version of the song. I went on to find out that this version has (later in the song) considerable new (to me) and variant lyrics compared to versions I was more familiar with. But these lines (early in the song) turned out to have the same lyrics I was more familiar with, as I determined from considerable examination of lyrics sites. - Submitted by: Francesca Burleson
