Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I never seen a road
On Allison Road
The Story: I just today looked up the lyrics of this song I have liked since the 90s and realized I've been wrong all these years! To me, he didn't know he was lost because he didn't know a road existed - hence (bad grammar noted) I never seen a road... - Submitted by: Sarah Weber

Tell me if you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I have no chief or tribe
And anyway, I've got no place to go.
Tell me if you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway, I've got no place to go.
The Story: I thought he meant, that he was by himself and he didn't have a lot of people with him (a tribe). So it should be okay for him to stay. I have heard it this way for 10 years now, and I finally looked up the lyrics because I had a vague idea that I was hearing it wrong all this time. - Submitted by: Frann
Hate jealousy!
Hey, jealousy!
The Story: My husband, Sheldon, and I were arguing about these lyrics in the parking lot of a local farm-implement dealer. Neither one of us likes to admit we're wrong, so natuarally we argued the entire time we in the dealership. We got quite a few looks as we stood there looking at tractor parts and insisting what the correct lyrics are. - Submitted by: Kandi Barron

Hey, Genesee!
Hey, Jealousy!
The Story: When this song came out I was in high school. My friends and I though it said 'Hey, Genesee' for the longest time. We thought it was cool cuz that's the kind of cheap beer we drank. Duh! Who'd sing a song about that cheap, crappy beer?! - Submitted by: Dawn
Till I hear it from...
Till I hear it from...
Till I hear it from you.
Till I hear it from you.
The Story: When I hear to this song, I feel misheard. Because, the singer sing "till I hear it from..." in every chorus without ended with "you" (or sometimes obscured by background vocals that the word "you" is not heard in this recording). Later, the singer finally sing "till I hear it from you" before the song unfortunately ended with fade out effect. What should they do with the lyrics that they wrote this? - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
