Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Story: A friend in high school went on and on about an awesome song called "Red Hot Lover". He was going around singing it. We had no idea what he was talking about. He called the radio station to request it, but the DJ obviously had no idea what he was talking about either. When he finally found a recording of his "Red Hot Lover" we died laughing at him. - Submitted by: Mark

I'm sitting here waiting at the Scottsdale Mall
I'm sittin' here waiting, the gun still warm
The Story: There used to be a mall in South Bend, Indiana, not far from where I lived, called Scottsdale Mall, that I used to hang around back in the day. I found it weird that someone would include that mall in the lyrics and a few months after the song came out, saw the lyrics and was like "it was too good to be true". - Submitted by: Chris
So you'll come to know
When the bullet hits the phone.
So you'll come to know
When the bullet hits the bone.
The Story: As an aging boomer, I've been out of the music loop for a couple of decades. While driving home from work, I was trying to zero in on my local NPR station and stumbled upon good ole rock 'n roll. This song came on, I loved it. When I went home, all I knew was the lyric 'When the bullet hits the phone', which came up empty when i tried to Google it. Frustrated, I e-mailed the radio station. They set me straight, but not before I had invested a good couple of hours in searching for the wrong song hook. Classic mondegreen, I'd say. - Submitted by: Simmie@mpixx.com

They're all to go my love has spins into a frenzy.
Help I'm stepping into the Twilight Zone.
This place is a madhouse.
Feels like King Kong.
Cannot decode my whole life spins into a frenzy.
Help I'm stepping into the Twilight Zone.
This place is a madhouse.
Feels like being cloned.
The Story: I feel misheard with this song and there are three point lines misheard lyrics in this song that I hear. The first line, "yeah everyone on the loose", indicating that all peoples both young and old and both men and women lose their balance or out of control. The second line, "they're all to go...", indicates that where everyone now? (especially in a music video featuring Sydney Sierota & Echosmith stuck in traffic along the 25 kilometers while they were to go into the recording studio using their car) and "my love has spins..." indicates that the singer singing this song for love in the middle of the traffic. And the third line, "feels like King Kong", indicating that the house in question in the lyrics of this song is the house of King Kong (a type of giant monkey). - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
