Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Always something waking up into
Always something breaking us in two
The Story: I thought this was a wake up call. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Pretty women out walking with curlers down my street
Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street
The Story: I am partially deaf, so I mishear a lot of lyrics. As silly as it might seem, I have never questioned myself about this one. It's always been curlers to me - until I actually decided to look up the song :-) - Submitted by: David
'cause I had my bill
'cause I had my fill

Friday walk
Right and wrong
The Story: This mis-hearing wasn't mine but actually my buddy's. He actually walked in to a record store and asked the manager, 'Do you have that song that goes 'Friday walk'?' - Submitted by: Bill
Bluebird stepping out.
You babe, steppin' out
The Story: Ever since I first heard this song on MTV in 1982 and subsequently on the radio, I always thought he was saying Bluebird and could never figure out what he was talking about. Now it makes a lot more sense! lol - Submitted by: Stacy
Bluebird, steppin' out
You babe, steppin' out
The Story: It is as follows: A local disc jockey was actually singing "Blu ebird, steppin' out" to the song as he was playing it then proceeded to talk abo ut the lyrics after the song was over. I didn't get up the nerve to call him abo ut the lyrics that appear inside the LP. - Submitted by: Susan Gruff
Bluebirds, steppin' out.
You babe, steppin' out.
The Story: I thought this was just another way of saying 'lovebirds'. I never knew the real lyrics until now, and I used to hear it all the time on my way to work in 1982! Looks like somebody else heard something similar. - Submitted by: Terri Powers
Duvet, steppin' out
You babe, steppin' out.
The Story: I have always sung "duvet" instead of "you babe" ever since I first heard the song in 1983 when I was 12, because I honestly thought that was the lyric! I have just heard the song again on the radio and actually thought to myself: "it can't be 'duvet', can it?", so I looked up the lyrics and realised it should be "you babe"! For over 30 yrears I thought it was "duvet", but never really questioned it before now, either consciously or subconsciously! It'll take some getting used to! - Submitted by: Garry Davenport
E.T's alive, E.T's alive
Get to the line, get to the line
The Story: The song came out at about the same time as E.T. so perhaps it was E.T. obsession that made me hear 'E.T's alive' instead of the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Koala Bear
Freeway, steppin' out
You babe, steppin' out
The Story: I always sung Freeway, had the subtitles on the video and saw what it actually was. - Submitted by: Emma Hanby
Heat wave, steppin' out, into the night
Me Babe, steppin' out, into the night
The Story: Believed the name of the song was "Heat Wave" for years. - Submitted by: Eric Prentice
Hussein steppin' out!
You babe, steppin' out
The Story: Saddam and King Hussein of Jordan we're always in the news when this song hit. - Submitted by: Chuck
Look and drive around
or
Who can drive around?
Look and dry your eyes
The Story: I was wondering what it actually was. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
If you wanna know about the man from Druckers
If you want to know about the mad punk rockers
The Story: I assumed 'Druckers' was some town in England, or a section of some English city. - Submitted by: The Skuz
