Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Lee Ann Womack

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
Don't let some half-wit wh*re leave you bitter.
The Real Lyrics:
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter.
The Story: Well me and my Nana were in the car. She had this song on, so I had no choice but listen. Well, that part came on and we both look at each other. I turned down the radio and said to her, 'Did she say what I think she said?' She also agreed, but when we got home I looked it up. Alas, I was wrong. - Submitted by: urdarlindead
Lee Ann Womack's, "I Hope You Dance"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Don’t let some helping heart leave you bitter.
The Real Lyrics:
Don’t let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
The Story: When I first heard the song, it was the “hook” for me. I was going through a hella bad time getting next no support as I went from professional helper, to alone and homeless. I was bitter, clearly but it’s a good piece of caution about codependency too. - Submitted by: Mark Boysen
Lee Ann Womack's, "I Hope You Dance"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I hope you die
The Real Lyrics:
I hope you dance
The Story: Lee Ann Womack does sing this line oddly. She wails and holds the note a long time. My mother and I were driving along, listening to the radio, I was singing with this song, when she exclaimed in alarm 'What are they saying? I hope you die?!' I burst out laughing and couldn't stop for some time. I managed to explain between guffaws, and she started to chuckle too. 'Daaiiiaiiaiai' Mom cried in her own unique way, and it really wouldn't have been a bad facsimile save for the silliness and sarcasm. - Submitted by: Cat

The Misheard Lyrics:
Promise me that you'll give faith to fight an angel.
The Real Lyrics:
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance.
The Story: i love this song. For Christmas, my mother just happened to give us a book about this song, including the lyrics and cd. Well as I was reading the lyrics, I had a shocking moment. She wasn't telling them to fight angels. It made sense though Why would you want to fight an angel? - Submitted by: Jada Thirdgill

Tom is a reel in constant motion
Always rolling us along
Tell me who wants the look back on them using
Wonder where those ears have gone
The Real Lyrics:
Time is a wheel in constant motion
Always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their youth
And wonder where those years have gone
The Story: When I heard this song, that's what I thought I heard those backing vocals (Sons of the Desert in the original version, but used an unidentified female singer in the radio version) singing. - Submitted by: Cody Finke

The only difference is they live in a creek
