Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

It must be said that she had lived in england for almost four years and returned to Denmark where we are from!!! But I don't think that it's an excuse for being so 'stupid'. We laughed alot that day!!! And I promised her not to tell anyone but..... - Submitted by: Louise Brown

So one day, the song is on, and she starts singing- 'I try to say goodbye to my troops...' and I say- 'What did you just sing?', so she repeats it back to me. I laugh and go- 'No, No, no! The lyric is 'I try to say goodbye and I choke!'' and she just looks at me and goes- 'This whole time, I thought this was a really patriotic song!!!' - Submitted by: Tina

I wear goggles when you are not near.
My world crumbles when you are not here.
The Story: I was backpacking around Europe in 2000, and one fabulous evening in Rome. I was sitting on a rooftop terrace of a quaint hostel, watching the sun set over the city. And one of the other backpackers pulled out a guitar and started strumming. Of course, I started to sing along and we jammed a bit and ended up launching into this song, where I sang at the top of my voice, in front of the whole hostel, 'I wear goggles when you are not near' - Submitted by: Laura

My world crumbles when you are not near.
The Story: When I first heard the song, I couldn't stop laughing. I thought she was trying to sound like Eric Cartman from South Park. Of course, I was wrong. There was some other stuff that was hard to interpret. I like the song, but I still laugh whenever I hear that song. - Submitted by: Chris Smith
