Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Michelle Branch

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Michelle Branch's, "Are You Happy Now?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
No, don't just walk away
Pretending everything's okay
And you don't care about me
And I know there's just no use
When all your lies become your truths and I don't care...yeah, yeah, yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Would you tell it to my face, we'd have a better race
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Ooh! To call there was to take
And living in a mountain plate
And you don't care about it, yeah.
The Real Lyrics:
Now, don't just walk away
Pretending everything's okay
And you don't care about me
And I know there's just no use
When all your lies become your truths and I don't care...yeah, yeah, yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
You took all there was to take
And left me with an empty plate
And you don't care about it, yeah.
The Story: Whoo....long entry! I can't believe how bad my hearing is. Or maybe the song is just muffled. I was shocked to find the huge difference between the real lyrics and what I kept hearing! - Submitted by: Jess Koopa
Michelle Branch's, "Everywhere"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Your underwear
The Real Lyrics:
You're everywhere
The Story: I thought it had to do with underwear! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Michelle Branch's, "Goodbye to You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Goodbye to you.
Goodbye to everything that I knew.
You were the one I hope.
Nothing's gonna change wanna do.
I still get lost in your eyes.
And it seems that I can live again without you.
The Real Lyrics:
Goodbye to you.
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew.
You were the one I love.
The one thing that I tried to hold on to.
I still get lost in your eyes.
And it seems like I can't live a day without you.
The Story: Unfortunately, I'm not fortunate. But, I couldn't hear Ashley Tisdale sing. So, it giving to this song. The first time ever I hear this song was more than one years ago when I adding this song into my playlist. For the lyrical content, it is too misunderstand for me. First, when I hear this song, the second line in choruses was sounding like "goodbye to everything that I knew" instead of "goodbye to everything I thought I knew". Second, in the third line, Michelle say "hope" instead of "love" indicated that her lover were the one she hope rather than she love him. This is happening in her fourth studio album, "Hopeless Romantic", released on 7 April 2017, some times after she can't get romance with him and she later searching her new lover. And finally, in the fourth line, I remember a song titled "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You" by George Benson as a solution how she can get again a love. About this song: "Goodbye to You" is track #10 on her second studio album, "The Spirit Room", released on 14 August 2001. It reaching #21 on Billboard's Pop Chart, #32 on New Zealand chart, and #79 on the Netherlands chart. Unfortunately, it failed to reaching the UK Singles Chart as her previous singles like "Everywhere" (reaching #12 on Billboard's Pop Chart) and "All You Wanted" (reaching #6). "Everywhere" was reaching #18 on the UK Singles Chart while "All You Wanted" was faring better on Billboard's Pop Chart but reaching the lowest position on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at #33. But, "The Spirit Room", that included "Everywhere", "All You Wanted", and "Goodbye to You", was reaching #54 on the UK Albums Chart and also reaching #28 on Billboard's Pop Chart. Making it her major hits to date with these songs and entering her into one-hit wonder fame. - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
