Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).
Broken Wings: Best Of Mister Mister album at Amazon.com
Cuz you're half of the flesh. And blood makes me whole.
That you're half of the flesh and blood that makes me whole.
The Story: I always thought he was a vampire. - Submitted by: Paul
Take these f***ing wings
Take these broken wings
The Story: Don't know whether he was trying to be funny or he believed genuinely those were the real lyrics but either way, I still think my significant other needs his ears cleaned out. Having said this, though a bit gratuitous, admittedly the cursing would fit in rather well with the singer's vocal straining at this part of the song. Shows some conviction and passion as if he's 'feeling the music'. - Submitted by: Missy Bass
The book of love will open up and let us sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
The Story: I thought that's what it sounded like back in the day. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
When we hear the voices sing,
You know that Buffalo Bill
Will let us sing
When we hear the voices sing,
The book of love will open
And let us in
The Story: This came out when I was little, and it was one of those songs I used to sing all the time. Yesterday, I was listening to an 80s station when the song came on, and I finally realized that I'd had the words wrong for years. I always *did* wonder what Buffalo Bill had to do with anything... - Submitted by: Danielle
Here in LA

Carry a lizard

Kyrie eleison down the road that I must travel Kyrie eleison through the darkness of the night Kyrie eleison where I'm going will you follow Kyrie eleison on a highway in the night
The Story: First heard the song on a roadtrip with friends. Having been born in the late 80s, I hadn't heard it before and never suspected the first words in the lines of the chorus were Greek. When I asked if the song was science fiction with talk of all the lasers, they laughed themselves sick while replaying the song to appreciate the hilarity my misheard lyric. - Submitted by: WizardWayKris
Carrying a laser down the road that I must travel.
Kyrie eleison, down the road that I must travel.
The Story: I know this has been posted many times, but does anybody remember the movie Short Circuit? This song played in the movie when the robot was traveling down the road. I thought they made this song for the movie since all the robots carried lasers. - Submitted by: Luke Ward
Fiery cheese upon a row the thyme unraveled.
Kyrie eleison, down the road that I must travel.
The Story: This line sounds like different gibberish every time through the song and it is obviously the main line in the song. I had no idea what it actually was until now, and wouldn't ever recognize it on an album cover if my liking the tune would get me to buy it! - Submitted by: Dingbat Louise

Kyrie Elesion down the road that I must travel.
