Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Story: I thought this song was about drinking heavily in a pub at first! - Submitted by: Vacuolate Tuna
My pregnant baby
My plug in baby
The Story: Its funny because I'd go to the local nightclub and scream the lyrics to it every weekend, then one week I noticed people singing different words but I thought they were the ones in the wrong and was laughing to myself about them..... then I found out what it was called! - Submitted by: Me
Muse's,
"Stockholm Syndrome"
Now that you know I'm trapped
Since ovulation.
Now that you know I'm trapped
Sense of elation.
The Story: A friend of mine was really pleased to have finally deciphered the lyrics to this song, and went around singing them all the time. When I told him his mistake, he almost wet himself. - Submitted by: Giles Smith
Muse's,
"Supermassive Black Hole"
Donkeys marching in the dead of night
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
The Story: I had heard it this way since it came out. Today I was singing it in the car with a friend and when we got to this part she had to correct me. We both laughed for a while. - Submitted by: Jennifer Aarons
Muse's,
"Supermassive Black Hole"
Oooh, you sell me cellulite.
Oooh, you set my soul alight.
The Story: I thought it sounded weird. How can you sell celulite? And who would even want to buy it? So I searched the lyrics; and yeh, found I'd misheard. - Submitted by: Tamsin
Muse's,
"Supermassive Black Hole"
Super Magic Butthole
Supermassive Black Hole
The Story: I was at a Muse show with my niece. And not being familiar with their music, I thought maybe they were gay (this is in no way to be taken as a homophobic remark!!!). When my niece set me straight, we laughed like crazy. She reminds me of this song every time I see her; and it still can make me laugh until I cry. - Submitted by: H
Muse's,
"Supermassive Black Hole"
Supermassive black God!
Supermassive black hole!
The Story: I just thought they liked Obama... - Submitted by: Ricky
Muse's,
"Time Is Running Out"
Now that you know I'm trapped since ovulation
Now that you know I'm trapped, sense of elation
The Story: I felt really emotional every time I heard this song thinking it was a really heavy intense song about abortion from the point of view of the fetus. That one misheard line makes the whole rest of the song totally fit with that idea. I've finally just looked it up and realized it has nothing to do with abortion. Was thinking it was a pretty heavy topic to become a number 1 hit!
This is the song with my misheard lyric: (TRIGGER WARNING - SENSITIVE SUBJECT)
I think I'm drowning
Asphyxiated
I want to break the spell
That you've created
You're something beautiful
A contradiction
I want to play the game
I want the friction
You will be
The death of me
Yeah, you will be
The death of me
Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it
Our time is running out
And our time is running out
You can't push it underground
We can't stop it screaming out
I wanted freedom
But I'm restricted
I tried to give you up
But I'm addicted
Now that you know I'm trapped
Since ovulation
You'll never dream of breaking this fixation
You will squeeze the life out of me
Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it
Our time is running out
And our time is running out
You can't push it underground
We can't stop it screaming out
How did it come to this
You will suck the life out of me
How did it come to this? - Submitted by: Amelia
