Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Animal misfit - a son of a bitch.
Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch.
The Story: That song was on the radio a lot in the '70s, and AM Radio was still as popular as ever. My work truck had a single speaker in the dash and a stock AM radio. I misheard a lot of lyrics, but this one sticks in my head. - Submitted by: Michael Stone
Don't go messin' with a son of a bitch
Now your messing with a, a son of a b****.
The Story: I used to play the song all time at home and in bars when I was younger and always thought it was "Don't go messin' with a son of a bitch." - Submitted by: Patrick Wightman

Red hot mama, no head trauma
Red hot mama, velvet charmer
The Story: I thought since the chorus of this song was "now you're messin' with a S.O.B," I always assumed he was saying the guy he beat up wounded up a concussion or something. - Submitted by: Caro
LaVerne
Love hurts.
The Story: The song was out when the show 'Laverne & Shirley' was big, so my sister (a big fan of the show) was absolutely convinced the song was related to the show, and would dance around singing, 'La-ah-Verne!' - Submitted by: Marie Cloutier
Love is like a flame, Laverne you get it hot
Love is like a flame, it burns you when it's hot
The Story: I was about 11 or 12 when this song came out, and "Laverne and Shirley" was one of my favorite television shows. Like others, I also thought this song was about "Laverne"; an easy mistake for a young girl who'd yet to have her heart broken. - Submitted by: Desiree

The Story: I just recently heard this in an Aspercreme commercial. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
