Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
He lies to succeed
Nuclear and HCP
Carbon fields and francis
We still like to succeed
The Real Lyrics:
Electricity
Nuclear and HEP
Carbon fuels from the sea
Wasted electricity
The Story: I heard this song about 20 years ago at a public demonstration of some Hi-Fi equipment. I liked it, and I've been looking for it ever since without any success, as I didn't know the name of the band nor the title of the song. In addition I've been using the wrong, misheard lyrics which led to nowhere in the many Google searches I've tried. Even the several "misheard song lyrics" sites gave no results. And then finally, yesterday, it was played on the radio... I mis-heard the lyrics again (must be that funny British accent!) but fortunately I made a recording which, when tried on midomi.com, gave the right result! I was surprised to know that the song was composed by the same band that plays the well-know "Enola Gay" song! - Submitted by: Hector
The Misheard Lyrics:
Colisious novel
The Real Lyrics:
Condition's normal and you're coming home.
The Story: Still sing my revised version today. Haven't got a clue what it means though? - Submitted by: Steve Lawton
The Misheard Lyrics:
It's eight fifteen, unless in China, food is always clean
The Real Lyrics:
It's eight fifteen, and that's the time that it's always been
The Story: I listened to this when I was very young, and I couldn't make out what the lyrics were, so tried shoehorning words to fit. My parents went on a holiday to China and I remembered them saying then that food hygiene was suspect, hence my misheard lyric. *note I live in Asia where English (let alone proper English) was back then not the default language - Submitted by: Kenny
