Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

You can't have your kick Anita Juice
You can't have your cake and eat it too
The Story: When I was about 6 or 7 I had this Paula Abdul tape that I was absolutely obsessed with, and my friend Nicole and I would sit in my room or wherever people wouldn't tell us to turn the %()^*ing music down and listen to the songs over and over again, and of course like 6 year old girls we made up stupid dance routines to go with the songs, thinking we were really cool. Nicole's favorite song was 'One or The other' and she made up this elaborate dance that depended on the lyrics being 'You can't have your kick Anita Juice', which she was sure was how it went. She'd jump up when that part played and lip sync 'Kick Anita Juice' as she kicked in the air at an invisible woman (Anita) and then pretended to drink a glass of juice. I think at some point I learned the actual lyrics but I just thought the actions were such a scream I never told her. - Submitted by: Sarah
Cherry fiction
or
Hairy fiction
It ain't fiction.
The Story: I was in first grade when this song came out. I remember my friends and I having an argument over whether the lyrics were 'cherry fiction' or 'hairy fiction'. We were divided, and I was leaning toward 'hairy' because there was a cartoon cat in the video. It didn't occur to us that neither of those words made sense in the context of the song (but hey, we were only about six). - Submitted by: Frann

or
Hearidviction
Just a natural pact
or
Hiri-d-viction just-a-natural-pact
It ain't fiction
Just a natural fact
The Story: That's the way I heard those lyrics before I was fluent in English. I actually heard it all as two long words as I didn't make the separate words. I heard D, V and P instead of T (ain't), F (fiction) and F (fact). I often put "here" or "hear" when I mishear some English lyrics. :D - Submitted by: MihailLe

The Story: Kept on thinking that she just wanted to sing. She could sing and dance! Yet with arthritis today, she now uses Voltaren! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Push, push come on baby come for me
Rush, rush come on baby, come to me
The Story: I was listening to this song with my college roomie while studying for a test. When I heard my friend starting to burst out laughing. I asked him why and he said that these were some of the most explicit lyrics he had heard on the radio before! I asked him what he meant, and between laughs, he said the misquoted lyrics above. I can never think of the song the same way again. Push, push indeed. lol - Submitted by: Rich
