Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Offshore madness
au-to-ma-tic
The Story: In the hook they draw out the one word "automatic" for so long that it sounded like two words "Offshore madness" to me. - Submitted by: Robert Fisher
Geese don't shine.
or
He's so fine.
He's so shy.
The Story: This was a big song when my brother was in his early teens. He always just assumed that was the line, never asked about it, until he was old enough to realize. [Ed.'s note: The line is 'He's so shy', not 'He's so fine' as Cathy thought it was.] - Submitted by: Cathy Baker
Shoes don't shine.
He's so shy.
The Story: I remember when this song was popular. I was very young at that time. For some reason, I thought the song title was 'Shoes Don't Shine'. There used to be a shoe store in St. Charles, Missouri called Brandy's Shoes. My mom & I went to that shoe store quite often. Every time, that song was always being played on the radio. Anytime I hear this song, I always sing 'Shoes Don't Shine', even though I know the correct song title. This song brings back a lot of memories. No wonder I thought the song was about shoes. - Submitted by: Samantha
I'm just burning, doin' the Mule Time Dance.
I'm just burning, doin' the Neutron Dance.
The Story: I had just purchased the Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack and was playing it at work singing along to the songs when 'Neutron Dance' came on. I was really getting in to it when a coworker stopped me with a big grin on his face. He asked 'What did you just say?' I said 'What?' He asked 'What do you think the name of this song is?' 'Mule Time Dance of course! Everybody knows Mule Time Dance!' After several minutes of stomach cramps, he picked himself up off the floor and pointed to the list of songs on the cd. I stood there looking at the name for a moment and restarted the song on the cd. When it finished I simply said 'Well,... that make a heck of a lot more sense now. I thought the Pointer Sisters had finally gone bonkers!' I was teased for the rest of my time with that company. - Submitted by: Mike Whitenton
Should I do it, should I f**k?
Should I do it, after all, oh
Should I do it, should I fall?
Should I do it, after all, oh
The Story: I was 15 years old at the time. Say no more. - Submitted by: Don't You Want Me, Ohhhhhh?
