Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Rare Earth

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Rare Earth's, "Get Ready"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You follow my heart and seek with love, let me remind you.
You are alright.
Loving you for a miles, and the time it takes to find you.
The Real Lyrics:
You wanna play hide and seek with love, let me remind you.
You're alright.
Loving you're gonna miss, and the time it takes to find you.
The Story: This song is 21 minutes and 30 seconds. The very longest song ever made to get airplays to date. I wondering if Pop radio stations playing this longest one. Their version of this song was released as a single in 1970 but originally released in 1969 from their album, "Get Ready". And this song that I hear is not about automobile. This song is about love and follow-up to The Temptations' next track on the single titled "Fading Away", a power ballad by The Temptations about fading love. About this song: "Get Ready" is track #6 on their second studio album, "Get Ready", released on 30 September 1969. It was written by Smokey Robinson. Their version of "Get Ready" was based upon a version of this song it performed as the closing numbers to their live performances. In the live show, each member of the band performing a solo, resulting in a 21-minute rendition of this song. It has been debated on whether the actual recording for the album was really recorded at a live performance. It has been noted that the audience sounds throughout this song are repetitive and canned. This has been done before with The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie" released on an album with party crowd noise dubbed in. Their first single was "Generation, Light Up the Sky". But, the band wishes to release "Get Ready" as a single. Finally, this 21-minute song was released as the next single and found its success. It topping Canada chart as well as reaching #2 on Cash Box's Pop Chart, #4 on Billboard's Pop Chart, and #20 on Billboard's R&B Chart. Become their most familar to date. It also become the very longest song ever made played on radio stations that playing Classic Rock non-stop. The original version of this song was a 2-minute rendition performed by The Temptations. - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
