Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Cheers to the freak and weak and I'll drink to that!
Cheers to the freakin' weekend, I'll drink to that!
The Story: I thought she was singing a toast to the outcasts... the freak(s) and the weak ... and suggesting they not let the bastards (the bullies) get them down. But as most outcasts experience bullying in their high school (and earlier) years, somehow it didn't occur to me that this interpretation might encourage teen drinking... - Submitted by: Dan H.
Got my rear fans on and I'm feelin' hella cool tonight, yeah.
Got my Ray Bans on and I'm feelin' hella cool tonight, yeah.
The Story: I thought she mean like in a school bus they have the fans up above the windshield, maybe her bus had rear fans!! - Submitted by: Tom Iannucci
You're a schuetzen star, I see
You're a shooting star I see
The Story: This song always reminds me of a fat German guy wearing one of those funny schuetzenfest hats, with shooting medals plastered all over his chest. - Submitted by: Fuzzbean
Ain't used to watch you lie
Ain't used to what you like
The Story: Nope, just that it really sounds like lie to me, I don't hear the k-sound of like. - Submitted by: Josie
Ain't used to wet July
Ain't used to what you like
The Story: My misinterpretation of the lyrics reminded me of the wet summer we had in the United Kingdom in 2007 and Rihanna's other song Umbrella was no. 1 for much of that time. - Submitted by: Stompgal
And it's scaring you and I
Am I scaring you tonight
The Story: It makes more sense my way: "Disturbia, it's like the darkness is the light, Disturbia, and it's scaring you and I," - Submitted by: A nanny mouse

I'm a Sam, I'm a Sam by Microsoft
Mamasee, Mamasee, Mamaakuse
The Story: ...as in "Microsoft Sam", the famously broken text-to-speech translator from (mostly) '90s versions of Windows. - Submitted by: AdmiralMercurial
I'm afraid I'm a fan of Microsoft
Ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa
The Story: My mother asked me if this was the lyrics... - Submitted by: you

The Story: It was really that Rihanna had anything to do with the Doobie Brothers? - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Rihanna's,
"If It's Lovin' That You Want"
Don't wander no more
Don't wonder no more
The Story: Once again, why I often confused "wonder" with "wander". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
I'm a rude boy
Come here, rude boy
The Story: I did wonder for a long time why a female artist was calling herself a boy until I learned what the real lyrics were... - Submitted by: Nat
Now let me show you how to feel violin
Not really sure how to feel about it
The Story: Misheard it when this song came out - Submitted by: AmIRightHead07
We fell in love and I bought this place.
We fell in love and I'm on display.
We found love in a hopeless place.
We found love in a hopeless place.
The Story: I thought it made sense. Rihanna could afford to buy any place where she fell in love. And, she is certainly "on display" any time she is in public. - Submitted by: Chris M
We fell in love and I own this place.
We fell in love and I own this place.
We found love in a hopeless place.
We found love in a hopeless place.
The Story: Everyone hears "we fell in love" instead of "we found love" because of the way Rihanna sings it. My eight year old son was singing along to it in the car recently and he was also saying "we fell in love" which I wasn't surprised by. I was going to explain to him that it actually says "we found love" so I turned down the radio and very clearly heard him belt out "we fell in love and I own this place!" - Submitted by: Jen West
We found love in a homeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
The Story: Welll, it started as me always thinking this is what they say but in cs188's pooping the charts, only then I realised I had misheard it. And I went searching for the real lyric. ;) - Submitted by: Lolwut!
We found love in a hornet's nest
We found love in a hornet's nest
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
The Story: When I first heard it in the club, I thought the lyrics were "hornet's nest," so I sang along out loud. I don't know why everybody was laughing at me then...now I do. Still, I think "hornet's nest" could work...expresses a similar snafu to that hopeless place. - Submitted by: Burmy87
What it takes to form a line
What it takes to come alive
The Story: I hear this is a common one, I was surprised to see that it wasn't listed. - Submitted by: RnzWithSizzors
When I'm with you all I get is wiped up
When I'm with you all I get is wild thoughts
The Story: It took me a few months before I got the name of the title of the song. I heard the song at parties and I didn't see the title anywhere until after a few months. - Submitted by: Tim Van C.
