Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Roxette

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Crash! Boom! Bang! album at Amazon.com
Roxette's, "Crush On You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I want your Buddha paradise.
The Real Lyrics:
I want your bird of paradise.
The Story: I was asking my friend if these were actually the real lyrics, which was right about when she broke into laughter. She explained there was a bird involved and no Buddhism references whatsoever. Shame. - Submitted by: V
Roxette's, "Dangerous"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I won't be walking on thin eyes to get through the night.
The Real Lyrics:
I won't be walking on thin ice to get through the night.
The Story: It's not particularly funny, but for several years I really thought the lyrics were "thin eyes" instead of "thin ice". I really like the song, but I thought that just doesn't make any sense! LOL. - Submitted by: Edward
Roxette's, "Dangerous"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm not attracted to go-go, not even tonight.
The Real Lyrics:
I'm not attracted to go-go deeper tonight.
The Story: I figured he was thinking he'd be better off alone than to take a chance on somebody dangerous! A great song played at many parties I attended during late 1989 - early 1990. That was quite an amazing and fun time. - Submitted by: Get Outta My Way! Get Outta My Sight!
Roxette's, "Dangerous"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm not attracted to go-go, not even tonight.
The Real Lyrics:
I'm not attracted to go-go deeper tonight.
The Story: I figured that he wasn't badly desperate enough tonight. He didn't want to mess with a "go-go" - not even tonight. - Submitted by: ROXETTE ROXXXX
Roxette's, "Dangerous"
The Misheard Lyrics:
the guys of a lower Hitler beat
The Real Lyrics:
The eyes of a lover that hit like heat
The Story: As a kid I heard the lyrics like that and asked myself why they sing about Hitler. - Submitted by: Alex
Roxette's, "Dress For Sucsess"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Gonna get dressed, the sign says.
The Real Lyrics:
Gonna get dressed for sucsess.
The Story: I used to fight with my cousin about this song. Even showing her the tape with the title written on it didn't matter to her. - Submitted by: Joie Bilodeau
Roxette's, "Dressed for Success"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Get dressed for size 6
The Real Lyrics:
Get dressed for success
The Story: It sounded like “size 6” which kind of makes sense. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Roxette's, "Fading Like a Flower"
The Misheard Lyrics:
With ice cream, there's no reply
The Real Lyrics:
When I scream, there's no reply
The Story: I heard it having to do with the old saying "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Roxette's, "Get Dressed For Success"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Get dressed for safe sex.
The Real Lyrics:
Getting dressed for success.
The Story: I was about 13 when this song came out, when everyone was talking about being safe and protecting yourself and your partner. I just took it as some person wrote a song about it. My older sister and I were listening to the radio. After I sang with the song, she rolled over on the floor laughing. When I asked what was so funny, she explained my mistake. The next day at school, I found condoms in my locker. - Submitted by: jocee
Roxette's, "It Must Have Been Love "
The Misheard Lyrics:
Lay a wishbone on my pillow
The Real Lyrics:
Lay a whisper on my pillow
The Story: My dance teacher used to play this during warm-ups soon after this song was released. I loved it so much, but I was 7 or 8 and this was long before the Internet, and I just kind of told myself it made sense. Like she was making a wish at night and would leave a wishbone on her pillow. - Submitted by: Courtney
Roxette's, "It Must Have Been Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
It masturbate love, but it's over now
It masturbate good, but I lost it somehow
It masturbate love, but it's over now
From the moment we touched, 'til the time had run out
The Real Lyrics:
It must have been love, but it's over now
It must have been good, but I lost it somehow
It must have been love, but it's over now
From the moment we touched, 'til the time had run out
The Story: A joke back in school days. - Submitted by: Applebits
Roxette's, "It Must Have Been Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Leave the window on the ground.
The Real Lyrics:
Leave the winter on the ground.
The Story: My friend and I spent ages trying to work out the real lyrics to this line. She found it particularly hilarious I thought it was 'the window', and decided it could be true, if the person singing had just been woken by an intruding burgler and was telling them to leave. Strange sense of humour, but I laughed. - Submitted by: Beryl
Roxette's, "Joyride"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Magic hat
The Real Lyrics:
Magic friend
The Story: I swear they were refering to a magic hat, not a magic friend. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Roxette's, "Listen to Your Heart"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Listen to your heart.
When his calling for you.
The Real Lyrics:
Listen to your heart.
When he's calling for you.
The Story: This song finally playing in rock radio program for the first time! About this song: While this song, according to me, was a purely rock song, however, according to Wikipedia, it was a pop rock song because it was recorded by a pop band. There is a song of the same name recorded by Little River Band, but not popular as well. Another reason that this Per Gessle and Mats Persson-penned song was a pop rock song because it was sizable for pop and adult contemporary radio stations (topping on Billboard's Pop Chart and later runner-up on the Adult Contemporary Chart). But this song still get a rock song and later was the most-playing song on many radio stations from around the world. It also sizable for some rock and mainstream rock radio stations like Rock Channel. The song was originally released on 27 September 1988 as the second single from their second studio album, Look Sharp! (1988). - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
Roxette's, "Listen to Your Heart"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When he's going for you
The Real Lyrics:
When he's calling for you
The Story: I swear I heard "going" instead of "calling". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Roxette's, "Spending My Time"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I try to call but I don't know what to tell you,
I leave the keys on your answering machine.
The Real Lyrics:
I try to call but I don't know what to tell you,
I leave a kiss on your answering machine.
The Story: For several years I thought the lyrics really said "the keys", I knew that didn't make any sense but I couldn't hear it any other way. Then one day listening to the song while playing the Joyride CD I finally understood what Marie was actually singing and it finally made sense. - Submitted by: Edward
Roxette's, "Spending My Time"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Masturbate without you, honey.
The Real Lyrics:
The bed's too big without you, honey.
The Story: Actually pointed out to me by someone else. I always heard the correct lyrics. But once they mentioned it to me, I couldn't hear anything /except/ the misheard version. - Submitted by: RocketGirl
Roxette's, "The Look"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Tasting like a wigwam
The Real Lyrics:
Tasty like a raindrop
The Story: A wigwam is a hut built by Native Americans and First Nations people. As God is my witness, the weird way the guy in the song pronounces “raindrop” sounded exactly like the word wigwam. Why would a girl taste like a hut made from wooden poles and tree bark? Why would that be desirable thing? It made sense to me when I was 10. - Submitted by: Sarah Perry
Roxette's, "The Look"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Tasty like a rainbow
The Real Lyrics:
Tasty like a raindrop
The Story: One person who reviewed this song on VH1's 40 Most Awesomely Bad #1 Songs thought "Tasty like a raindrop" made no sense. Who also would have thought that??? In that case, "Tasty like a rainbow" made more sense, since it had to do with the longtime Skittles slogan "Taste the rainbow". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Roxette's, "Vulnerable"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She's so vulnerable, vagina in my hands
The Real Lyrics:
She's so vulnerable, like china in my hands
The Story: I tried to figure out the lyrics just by listening to the song over and over again, and sang it at a singing contest in high school, a Catholic school. All 5 judges (faculty members, including the principal) gasped and everyone broke out into laughter. - Submitted by: Michael Vergara
