Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Story: One of my favourite songs to jump on the bed to. - Submitted by: Arblemarch T Fruitbat
That's the sound of the men working on the train, yeah
That's the sound of the men working on the chain gang
The Story: I used to think that the huffing and puffing in the song was the sound of a train going "Chugga chugga chugga," which led me to believe that Sam Cooke was actually saying "train" rather than "chain." - Submitted by: Isac
Cupid, help me,
I'm thirsty
Cupid, help me,
I need you.
The Story: Growing up, I often confused the lyrics of Sam Cooke's "Cupid" and "Chain Gang". - Submitted by: S. Tim Wood
Cupid, warp factor four
Cupid, draw back your bow.
The Story: When I was a kid, I loved "Star Trek- The Original Series". I also like this song that was on the radio on the way to school. Somehow, I entwined the two and thought for years that Cupid was flying around at warp speed to bring love to the Universe. It wasn't until my late 20's that someone finally corrected me. - Submitted by: Paul Scott
Oh man you find a hole in Y' (ie your) arm
Oh man you find the old and young

Don't know much about the French-eyed hook
Don't know much about the French I took

You send me,
On a Skidoo.
You send me
Honest you do, honest you do.
The Story: I think this song was once used in a television commercial for a chain of roast chicken outlets. A couple dressed in 1950s attire sat together in a car, and mimed to this song as they gazed lovingly at one another, and each held a roast chicken drumstick in their hands. - Submitted by: Scott McPhee
You send me
On a shidoo, on a shidoo.
You send me
Honest you do, honest you do.
The Story: Being a teen in Australia and never seing snow, I thought a 'Shidoo' was a snow ski or something like that. - Submitted by: Maxx
