Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Sandpipers

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
Guantanamera!

Sandpipers', "Guantanamera"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Juan Talamera Wa ki ra Juan Talamera
The Real Lyrics:
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
The Story: Last October, me and my family attended a party to celebrate the Chinese Mooncake Festival. One of my dad's friends sang the song in Karaoke to boost up the mood of the party, but I misheard the lyrics when I heard my dad's other peers singing along. I laughed at myself so hard to the point of texting my friends the wrong lyrics. After a few minutes, one of my pals replied to my text with a big "HUH? What do you mean? Who is Juan Talamera?" - Submitted by: Melanie

The Misheard Lyrics:
One Dollar Mena, Ah-Ee-Ah, One Dollar Mena
The Real Lyrics:
Guantanamera guajira Guantanamera
The Story: I've always wondered what a Mena is. Later on in life I figured I just misheard the lyrics. I finally found out what the actual words are today by searching the web with my fiancee's help. She told me the verse starts with 'G' which I would not have figured out on my own. Of course she misheard the lyrics to Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' in a funny way of her own: 'We don't need no fog control.' - Submitted by: Jack

The Story: My friends and I found this song on the internet. We laughed so hard becasue we thougth the lyrics were soooooo funny. We knew that most of the song was in Spanish though, so we brought it into our spanish class in hopes that our teached could translate.
