Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

And the bottom part of you is gettin' so excited.
And the thought of loving you is getting so exciting.
The Story: I only figured out what the real lyrics to this song were about a month ago, when I heard it on an oldies station. I called my best friend of 25 years just to tell her the words I'd been singing all of these years. We laughed and laughed. I always thought this was just a really nasty song! My best friend found this website and thought I might like it. I love it!!!!! - Submitted by: Toni Huehnerfuss

But you've got some peter waiting and I think I might.
But you've got some dinner waiting and I think I might.
The Story: My mouth dropped open the first time I ever heard this song and so did a friend's who was riding to work with me. We both looked at each other and she said what I was thinking: "Did they just say 'you've got some 'peter' waiting"?????!!!! I said "That's what it sounded like to me." Since neither of us were prudes, we both cracked up and sang it that way every time we heard it on the radio, even after we found out what they really said. To this day I still laugh when I hear that song and sing it that way. - Submitted by: Lea Lindsay

The thought of loving you is getting so exciting
The Story: This was actually misheard by my former roommate. I heard her singing it in the kitchen one day and cracked up. It caused our biggest argument of the three years we shared a house - neither of us would back down on our version. We finally made up when she bowed to my superior musical knowledge. - Submitted by: Nancy Christy
