Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Indian bird, and wet your turd
And four fine b***s, your out.
Indian burn, and wait your turn
And four foul balls, you're out.
The Story: I grew up in Waynesboro, VA (near Staunton, where the Statler Brothers are from) and when I was a kid we would listen to 8 tracks on our family vacations. I honestly believed that Harold Reid said the above mentioned misheard lyric! I thought it was pretty crude, so I didn't mention it to my parents for many years before I finally found out what the real words are!! - Submitted by: Judy
Styx nose plugs and aviator caps with flaps that button down
"Sticks - no floats", and aviator caps with flaps that button down.
The Story: This is a fishing reference to using cane or stick fishing poles without using floats (bobbers) that make it easier to tell if the fish has taken the hook. It is considered a bigger challenge and a truer test of skill if you don't use floats and just rely on touch or feel to know when the fish is hooked. - Submitted by: Fred Bennett
Goin' steady, Veronica and Betty, white socks and blue suede shoes

Oh, He lives again.
Oh, Elizabeth
The Story: I was playing this in my car one day while my sister was with me. We started singing and that's when I heard her sing 'Oh, He lives again!' I looked at her and laughed so hard. She asked why I was laughing and when I told her, she sat there and laughed also. Now every time we hear that song, we both, just have to laugh! - Submitted by: Rhonda Ziegenhorn
Eating flowers off the wall
That don't bother me at all.
Counting flowers off the wall
That don't bother me at all.
The Story: I can't really claim to have misheard the lyric as I have never really heard the song in my life, but my father, who never seems to sing the correct words to a song, always sang it like this so I thought that was how the song went. - Submitted by: Grace
My savior got to me.
My Savior God to Thee
The Story: That's what my little sister used to think it was when she was about 4. It was so funny listening to her sing it. - Submitted by: lodi
