Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Steven Curtis Chapman

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Steven Curtis Chapman's, "Bring It On"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I didn't come looking for trouble
And I don't want to fight in my sleep.
The Real Lyrics:
I didn't come looking for trouble
And I don't want to fight needlessly.
The Story: It was my friend's younger brother that misheard this one. We all made fun of him for it. Ironically, the younger brother is now my best friend. - Submitted by: Evan Carlson
Steven Curtis Chapman's, "Cinderella"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She wants to know if I have proof of address
The Real Lyrics:
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
The Story: I heard this song a number of years ago in the car while it played on a local Christian radio station. I thought Mr. Chapman said "proof of address", but that didn't relate to anything in the song. Many years later, I realized that he said "if I approve of the dress", meaning his daughter's prom dress. - Submitted by: Joe the Crazy Conch
Steven Curtis Chapman's, "For the Sake of the Call"
The Misheard Lyrics:
How some crazy Christian men
The Real Lyrics:
How some crazy fishermen
The Story: I always thought "Christian men" made sense. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Steven Curtis Chapman's, "Live Out Loud"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Imagine this...I get a phone call from Jesus
He says, 'Do you want to be a millionaire?'
The Real Lyrics:
Imagin this...I get a phone call from Regis
He says, 'Do you want to be a millionaire?'
The Story: I was in the car with my parents when we heard this sing. They both said, simultaniously, 'Did he say he got a phone call from Jesus?' Of course, I corrected them. - Submitted by: Rachel
