Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

It's in the soup that you wear.
It's in the suit that you wear.
The Story: When I heard this song announced on the radio, all I could think about was a baby eating soup and dumping it on their head! - Submitted by: metalgirl162002
Tick tock

The Story: Sounded like “tick tock” when I heard this song. - Submitted by: Cody Finke

It's starting me down
Wearing a crown of apple peels
It's staring me down
Wearing a crown of apathy
The Story: This just struck me out of the blue very recently, but it did make me slap my forehead. I had always assumed what I heard was right. I figured it was something weird enough for STP to say in a song. I don't know why I never bothered to read the lyrics in 9 years. Oh well. - Submitted by: C Johnson
Toboggan, toboggan, toboggan
To find her, To find her, to find her
The Story: It came on at work one day on KROQ. My (friend) and I were in the shop when this came on. After I heard the chorus, I thought of that bobsledding sport, toboggan or whatever. I put 2 and 2 together; and needless to say, we were laughing our a***s off. - Submitted by: unf
When the dogs devour her,
got time time to wait for tomorrow to find him,
to find him, to find him
When the dogs do find her,
got time time to wait for tomorrow to find it,
to find it, to find it
The Story: I only found out that the lyrics weren't right on this site! I have been singing the wrong lyrics for years! Now I think my version is much better hehe. I was trying to find out the name of the song and I was searching sites for lyrics, and this is the only part I could remember, ... I wonder why I couldn't find it... - Submitted by: bir0
Took it out my paper heart
Don't cut out my paper heart
The Story: I was 18; I had no idea what I was hearing. - Submitted by: Steffen
Dead fish don't swim around in Jill's thighs.
Dead fish don't swim around in jealous tides.
The Story: The song is largely nonsensical. I thought Scott Weiland was just singing about the impulsiveness he feels after coming off a drug high. It made sense to me, given that all other things in that song seemed disorganized. I thought 'well, why object to Weiland putting a reference to something really perverse in there?' When I looked at the lyrics, I felt like a dummy and thought 'Will you friggin' enunciate properly, Weiland?' - Submitted by: J.D.
