Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).
Eye of the Tiger album at Amazon.com
Rising like a tiger.
Rising like a spire
The Story: Probably was influenced, by hearing Eye Of The Tiger. - Submitted by: Robert Cole
And the last known survivor stuffs his bread in the night.
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night.
The Story: They played it on some Portland 80's station. I wondered why a survivor would stuff bread (though somehow it made perfect sense to me when I first heard the song). So I typed in 'Eye of the Tiger lyrics' into Google and up comes the misheard lyrics site. What did people do before the internet? - Submitted by: Krey Price
...rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And his fortune must always be eye of the tiger
... rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
The Story: I have NO idea why I thought the lyrics talked about "fortune"...and it was a real surprise to me when I actually closely listened to the song. It makes much more sense than what I thought! - Submitted by: Melanie Young
It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up the the challenge of our rival
It's the eye of the tiger
It's the cream of the fight
Risin' up the the challenge of our rival
The Story: Its 'cream of the fight' people often misinterpret this one. Many argue that 'cream' doesn't make sense but ever heard of 'cream of the crop'? Means the best. The fighter is the best. - Submitted by: Jess
It's the eye of vagina, it's the thrill of the tight.
Rise up to the challenge on arrival.
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight.
Rising up to the challenge of our rival.
The Story: I heard the lyrics one day and did a double-take. So I looked them up and laughed that I wasn't that far off. - Submitted by: Mr. Music Guy
Last known survivor's guts are spread in the night
In the night
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
The Story: Just seems a bit weird he survived his guts being spread every-f***ing-where.... - Submitted by: pete
Rising up to the challenge of our Bible
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
The Story: I wondered how they got into the Holy Bible. That makes no sense with Rocky. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
I must be living in Fantasyland
or
I must be living in and around Disney World
I must be living in a fantasy world
The Story: I would have thought Jimi Jamison went to the Happiest Place on Earth... - Submitted by: Cody Finke
I let the wheel of fortune spin
You seemed to share my secret sin
The Story: I was envisioning the ancient wheel of fortune from tarot cards, not the game show. - Submitted by: Gary Everett
There you stood, bad old teacher
There you stood, that'll teach ya
The Story: Thought it was about the movie "Bad Teacher" - Submitted by: Misty
It's the moment of truth you're giving it all
Standing alone, William Defoe...
It's the moment of truth you're giving it all
Standing alone, willing to fall
The Story: Always made me feel like William Defoe should have been in the Karate Kid but I guess he was probably too busy being Sgt. Elias in Platoon around that time? - Submitted by: Arch Stanton
I was living for Audrey
I was living for a dream
The Story: I had a classmate whose nickname was "Audrey" Boy we sang the (as it turned out wrong) lyrics every chance we got... - Submitted by: Mazec
I was living for rotary
Loving for a moment
Taking on no one
That was just my style.
I was living for a dream
Loving for a moment
Taking on the world
That was just my style.
The Story: I never knew what 'living for rotary' meant. I thought perhaps it was something like playing roulette-taking chances with silly girls when the nice girl was right there. I guess it was not so complicated after all! - Submitted by: Michelle
Now the miles stretch out behind me
Loves that I have lost
Broken hearts like victims of the plague.
Now the miles stretch out behind me
Loves that I have lost
Broken hearts lie victims of the game.
The Story: I know it sounds rather gross/violent. But for a long time, it sounded like he was comparing the broken hearts to "victims of the plague". :( - Submitted by: Shari
You followed me through changes
Impatiently you'd wait
You followed me through changes
AND patiently you'd wait
The Story: Even some You Tube videos say 'impatiently' but it really is AND patiently (why would it be impatiently, when it's talking about a woman who followed the man through changes and was there for him the whole time?!) - Submitted by: Dave
