Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Do you have to let in labour?
Do you have to let it linger?
The Story: When I was little, I always thought this song (with my lyrics in it) was about going into labour during pregnancy. You know I'm such a fool for you.
The Story: I sang the song my way for about 5 years, until one day I commented to my roommate about how nice that she cares enough about this person to provide them with food--a basic survival need. I was met with a blank stare, and then laughter... =P - Submitted by: izzy
You know I'm searching food for you
You know I'm such a fool for you
The Story: My whole life, I loved this song, and I couldn't understand why exactly the protagonist was searching for food for their lover, but I figured it was a song about poverty. One day I was at Chipotle with my husband, and the song came on. I started singing my version of the lyrics, and he burst out laughing, saying "no! that's not what the lyrics are!" - Submitted by: Anna
