Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Tracy Byrd

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Tracy Byrd's, "Before I Die"
The Misheard Lyrics:
To where nothing on God's green Earth is to die for
The Real Lyrics:
To where nothing on God's green Earth looks dry
The Story: I was sitting in a Cracker Barrel eating dinner when this played on the sound system. I hadn't heard the song before and couldn't identify it until I got home and searched on Google a few lines of it that I remembered from hearing it. The line above I DEFINITELY misheard as I report it. After finding the real lyrics I was surprised to find my mishearing has a couple of more syllables than the real lyrics. Maybe he draws out some of his words, enabling the mishearing that matches what I clearly seemed to hear. - Submitted by: Karen Smith
Tracy Byrd's, "Watermelon Crawl"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I heard a great big sneeze from a small little mare
The Real Lyrics:
I heard a welcome speech from a small-town mayor.
The Story: Sounds like something Weird Al would sing - Submitted by: Micheal Timmons
Tracy Byrd's, "Watermelon Crawl"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I heard a welcome speech from a small-town mare.
The Real Lyrics:
I heard a welcome speech from a small-town mayor.
The Story: I was 4 years old when this song came out, and I always thought these were the actual lyrics. Now that I'm older, I realize how ridiculous it is to think a horse could give a welcome speech! - Submitted by: Tyler
