Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Eat a hot dog.
Do the Hustle!
The Story: A group of friends and I were pondering the hook of the song. I straight-faced blurted out, 'Eat a hot dog!' After the laughter died down, the group adopted my suggestion as the official lyric. - Submitted by: Daniel Zay
Funky Nassau!
Do the hustle!
The Story: This wasn't my mishearing, but my best friend's. He argued with his wife, his sister, my boyfriend, and me, refusing to admit he was wrong. I guess I can't blame him for clinging to his mistake. It takes a special kind of talent to screw up the only lyric to a song! - Submitted by: galoux
Tuna hot dog!
Do the hustle!
The Story: When I was in junior high, my friend told me that she had never eaten a tuna hot dog and did not know why there was a song about it. - Submitted by: TJ
Tuna hot sauce!
Do the Hustle!
The Story: My sister pointed out my mistake in front of several people. I've never been able to live it down. My nieces and nephews call me "Aunt Tuna". - Submitted by: Justina
Do my muscle.
Do the hustle.
The Story: I didn't actually think this was the lyrics, I overheard this on a radio all request show where a woman called in and requested it. The dj later asked her how old she was, and she was definitely old enough to know better. She really thought that's what it was. - Submitted by: Cyndi
Do the Hot Dog!
Do the Hustle!
The Story: My first wife was convinced that was what was being said. - Submitted by: Kenneth Hayes
Junior high school.
Do the Hustle.
The Story: In 8th grade P.E. we were learning a dance routine to this song and I thought, 'How cool--they're teaching us a bump to a song they wrote specifically about us!' It wasn't until a couple of years ago when I saw it on TV advertised in some compilation album that I realized the title of the song was also the chorus of the song. All those years thinking our junior high school P.E. class was special, wasted. - Submitted by: Cindi
¡Durazno!
Do the Hustle!
The Story: This is what my mother thought they were saying, way back in the '70s. "Durazno" is the Mexican-Spanish word for "peach". - Submitted by: david lincoln brooks
