Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Big Pants I know you're the one.
Big hands, I know you're the one.
The Story: I just knew that I was singing the lyrics correctly. I always thought is was something clever about a girl with a nice rear end. It popped in my head one night and I wanted to see the lyrics or at least hear the song. The only thing stuck in my head was the part of the song that said 'Big Pants'. I didn't even know the name of the group or name of the song. I figured if I typed in 'Big Pants' lyrics on a search that I was surely find it. Boy, was I wrong. I searched for about 4 hours and stayed up until 1:30 am on a work night looking for it because I couldn't sleep and couldn't find it. I thought I was going crazy! I finally found a blog of people thinking they heard the same thing I did and I was finally able to get the name of the band, look up the song, listen to it, and finally go to sleep! - Submitted by: Tommy Williams
My girlfriend, she's Auntie Em.
She is starting to cry.
My girlfriend, she's at the end
She is starting to cry.
The Story: I thought the girlfriend was crying because he called her Auntie Em. I also got confused about who Auntie Em was for some reason, and instead of thinking she was from The Wizard of Oz, I thought she was Aunt Jemima! - Submitted by: Smokey
Let me go white
Like a blister in the sun
Let me go on like I blister in the sun.
The Story: I sang this misheard lyric for years. I thought it was a sweet way to say 'getting married'. A work colleague laughed when I mentioned I didn't understand why blisters would go white in the sun and suggested it was "wide" not white. - Submitted by: Karen
My girlfriend, she's Indian
My girlfriend, she's at the end
The Story: No funny anecdote here; I just always thought it was "Indian" until I just now looked up the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Jon
