The Lyrics

May I state up front that flatulence humor is not my thing, but this OS beckoned me in a very obvious direction. Kinda sad to treat such a beautiful song and singer this way. I hope it doesn't spoil anyone's enjoyment of this wonderful band, the original 'Soggy Bottom Boys' in the Coen Bros' 'O Brother Where Art Thou' - and among the finest country music has ever had to offer. Who would have dreamed that Alison would go on to win a Grammy duetting with Robert Plant?

WHEN YOU MAKE NO SOUND AT ALL

It's amazing how you can let go of a fart
Without making a sound, you can light up the dark
Try as I may I can conceal in vain
All can hear that embarrassing thing

The smile on your face lets me know you deceived me
There's a truth in your eyes saying 'ephem'ra leaves me'
The crutch where you stand twitches slightly whenever gas calls
You play it best, of that no doubt at all

All day long I can hear ill winds broken out loud
But with you there's no fear you'll gross out the crowd
Old Mrs Manners has no cause to whine
The airborne offense origin cannot find

The smell in the place lets us know you've relieved thee
Uncouth pleasure lies in your guile, really peeves me
Those such can still stand say we'll catch this sly vendor of pall
You hide it best, just like it's nothing at all

(instr. break)

No blush on your face lets us know what's aggrieved we
In a booth or a lift it's no picnic, believe me
So much sleight-of-gland - none can match your sheer innocent gall
You've never messed, hope one day sphincter will stall …

He who farts the quietest, farts the smelliest......The whole kit and caboodle was the swelliest...

Good, (un)clean fun - 'So much sleight-of-gland - none can match your sheer innocent gall' among many laugh-out-loud lines.A trumpeting 555 :^)

(If it helps at all, you could always imagine these words to the Ronan Keating version of the OS - his rendering of it definitely being the equivalent of a wet fart!)

I've also surrendered to writing a flatulence parody because, well, if the song is a sound choice you must let it out. This one was quite breezy. Here's 555 cans of air freshener.

Thanks Dave W, Wendy C, AFW, Warren B - your comments are like a breath of fresh air. Wendy, I agree about the Ronan K version. Warren B - exactly; I blame the song.

I must confess, even M&P have done an occasional fart parody - heck, one of them was even M's idea.... ;)
