Original Song Title:

"Happy Working Song"

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Sweaty Beijing Shop"

Parody Written by:

EmiLoca

The Lyrics

Megamarts depend
On the small, sycophantic little working throngs
Wary rejects from the Viet Cong
All enroll naively
Workin’ weeks for rich kin
Wouldn’t dream of ever bitchin’
Cause the hours are long

Spills of eerie goop – looks like blood
Is that someone smothered in juiced brains?
Fuck, his hair’s caught on the power chains
Dude, such labor pains
In our sweaty Beijing shop

Wheels unspringing, jet spouts failed
Under Chinese toilin’
Mao shrinked down when profits paled
His runts we’re now employin’!
Woo!

Howdy, little boy, here’s your boost for the weekend
’Cause you lost your thumb
Twenty pennies for a pack of gum
To send home to mum
For slaving in our shop
(Hey, you!
Who said that you could stop?)

Oh, deranged young employees
The Darfur refugee kids won’t stop crying
Chill! They’ve got breaks twice a year
They’re best for this career – malnourished fingers flying
(Sales! Keep buying!)

Goods shipped out to lots, to be bought
Sold in bulk to Western drooling bums
Meanwhile, foreign kids earn hopeless sums
Stocking stores for ditzy whores
Who make no earnin’s
Haitians, Mexicans and Germans
Make their crap in Vietnam

Boycott Chinese threads? Never heard such crock!
Don’t we need Gap shirts and our Nike socks?
We don’t scoff
Aren't we’re glad they get to work nonstop
So efficient in their sweaty Beijing shops!

Yeah… God bless Taiwan.

Emi - Love the disparity in dis parody. You managed to suck all the light out of that cheery Disney ditty and filled it full of the "darkside". Fave sub has to be the "Ditzy Whores" line. Now I have to wonder when I put on some threads if some poor kid from Darfur sweat blood for a pittance because it is just easier to sell a kid than to feed and raise one. Thanks for reminding me. We sit on our pity pots in the free world and complain because we get inconvenienced while dealing with trivial matters. I've been overseas a few times in my life and we have nothing at all to complain about. This parody is well stated and makes a very poignant statement. Well done indeed. Forgive me for saying this but from your pics you look too sweet to have such dark thoughts. You are wise beyond your age. Nothing funny here but then I am sure funny was not the point. I get it. And to say that Mao did shrink down is an understatement given the high mobidity rates in the Chinese population during his cultural revolution. You know your history too. If anything, this write makes you stop and smell the roses and count your blessings. Thanks Emi.

(SOTM) I'm a noob to Enchanted... wow, this one blew me away with the word subs matching every single stinking line to a T. And what a pointed message. 555

(SOTM) I echo Guy's comment re: the paraody's content being so disparate (did I spell that correctly?) from the OS original content. I like that, too. A good "edge" to this one.

(SOTM) Excuse me while my head explodes from sheer disparity. 555 for you.

I wonder if there's a sweat shop crisis and if so what they do about it, cut down on the unpaid labour?

Indeed

Alright, pretty good parody, something was strangely appropriate about turning this somewhat happy upbeat Disney song into a song about the Big Red Country. . .just the idea made me laugh.

I enjoy it when you play with words. Brilliantly shameless way to remind consumers of where their gear comes from. I can see a smiling Chinese woman singing as the kids are slaving in the background.

I am so with you
The juxtaposition of the OS and asians slaving for pittance (thanks Guy) to make the crap we buy is brilliant...and very insightful.
Oh yeah...I love "theater" parodies
Red Ant - April 03, 2009 - Report this comment
Quite the reversal of the OS. Great matching, more true than funny, but one in the same here. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go to Walmart - I have to keep the child labor force employed...
