The Lyrics

I'd like to dedicate this to my friend and favorite NASCAR fan, Colette, who still has a Speed Racer lunchbox.
She was trying not to squeal with Speed Racer at the wheel of the Mach 5, gaining speed
Chasing down a bunch of bad guys in the distance with a monkey in the backseat
They were getting close and she just didn't know if Speed could save the day
She felt a touch of fear
She felt her mouth going dry and she worried 'bout the monkey
They were going way too fast
Before she knew it she was ducking from a big loud shotgun blast
She saw all their lives flash before her eyes
She was sure they were about to die
She was so afraid
When Speed turned to her and said

Trixie, take the wheel!
Take it in your hands
And don't you tell me, "No, Speed, no!"
I'm letting go
To take the bad guys down
So keep the Mach 5 on the road
Trixie, take the wheel

She was not feeling bolder as she sped along the shoulder while they tried to stay alive
She screamed when she saw that monkey in the backseat bouncing off the sides
But then she pulled herself together
And Trixie saved the day
She said, I'll try a different way
Not afraid of my life
I know I must be brave
For the next time Speed says

Trixie, take the wheel!
Take it in your hands
And don't you tell me, "No, Speed, no!"
I'm letting go
To take the bad guys down
So keep the Mach 5 on the road
Trixie, take the wheel

Oh, Trixie take the wheel!
Oh, I'm letting go
To take the bad guys down
So keep the Mach 5 on the road
Keep it on the road
Trixie, take the wheel
Oh, take it, take it from me

No...Speed...no...

Jesus, take the wheel, Buddha, rotate the tires, Krishna, change the oil, Allah, fill the tank, Ravyn, have some fives.

Had me going there for a minute. I thought the narrator was going to be Ed Norton from "The Honeymooners." It's been a while since I've seen "Speed Racer," the recent car-insurance commercial notwithstanding. But I've got good news: You just got a bunch of fives, and you didn't even have to switch to Geico!
