"Goodbye, Girls"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Emily and Martie were the best of friends
All through their early days
Singing in the streets in ol' big D
Not getting very much pay
After a few years, then along came Natalie
And it was a brand new world
All the music fans in the USA
Were crazy 'bout those Texas girls

With beautiful vocals and amazing bodies
The Chicks won America's hearts
And every song and album that they recorded
Went straight to the top of the charts
Well earlier this week, in a concert in London
Natalie shared her views
She said she was ashamed that her home state
Was our President's home too

Well, she voiced her views out of sheer frustration
Saying that she did despair
But DJs from stations across the nation
Pulled their music from the air, cuz

The girls went awry
Goodbye, girls
Don't shed a tear
It was just your career, girls
What are your plans
Now that you have no fans, girls
A double whammy
Forget next year's Grammy, girls

At first, she said she was just concerned
As a mother worried about war
But her tune changed when the radio stations
Didn't play their records no more

Then, she said she was sorry
Didn't mean the disrespect
And that she loved America too
But the people didn't buy it, or their records, either
And the girls were sad and blue

So the girls go back to that Dallas street corner
Where they don't hear the crowds roar
And the radio stations still play that country music
But they don't play Dixie Chicks any more, cuz

The girls went awry
Goodbye, girls
You were too rash
CDs go in the trash, girls
Well, please don't sob
You can go get a job, girls
Yes, you were cute
Now then, all that is mute
Girls, hey
Well hey, hey, hey
Aw, hey, hey, hey
Well, hey, hey, hey

well, isn't there such a thing called 'freedom of speech'. we're not nazi germany, and anyone can disagree with whoever they want publicly. and i do agree with them; i don't care if it was the president. hell, i say crap about bush all the time-- i think he's an idiot. and as for dixie chicks-- it doesn't matter what they said; they've still got great music.

Bubba - August 15, 2003 - Report this comment
Who said anything about freedom of speech? I never said they should be arrested for what they said...sheesh! They can say what they want, but they are public figures...if it turns out to be unpopular, they will pay for it in record sales and airplay, which they did. As for my name, click on More parodies by this author, and read my bio, stupid...

What the hell is wrong with you people? We were attacked on 911 in the exact same manner as we were on 12/7/41 except these cowards took out civilians. They only hit one military target and that was the Pentagon, which in itself is an act of war. TImes have changed and a global war means just that, global, anywhere and everywhere. The war is out in your own backyard and you people are too apathetic to even acknowlege it, let alone do anything about it. While you all sit on your duffs the rest of us will try to keep that fanatic horde off our soil and out of our business. They had a word for your type in WWII. It was called traitor. WAKE UP and smell the coffee. The Dixie Chicks are clueless when it comes to national defense and anyone who thinks these 'Chicks' have the answers may as well go buy a Koran and convert now to Islam because if these fanatics had their way everyone in the world would be Islamic and anyone who refused would be put to death. These guys make Nazis look like the Sapranos. So just sit there on your butts in lala land and badmouth those of us who will defend your rights but when the lights go out and your wife has to wear a burka, that's when I want to hear you badmouth. It ain't the same world it was on 9/10/01. You go Bubba.
Pat - August 16, 2003 - Report this comment
I must say that I agree with Bubba's parody and Guy's sentiment! We were attacked! We do have every right to ensure that our American ways remain just that...American. I do not like war, but in some cases it is totally called for, as in this case.

(1) Guy DiRito is both ignorant and xenophobic. That is a frightening combination. (2) Pat agrees with everything Guy says. Yeah, we got that already. (3) Please demonstrate a link between the 9/11 attacks and the Hussein regime, one that's clear enough to justify a response like WAR. (4) Whether or not you've convinced yourself that there is such a link, surely you understand that there are others who have not. (5) Those others are as free to criticize Bush as you are to criticize the left (or gays or Mormons or Episcopalians or anyone else whose views don't match your own). It's a free country, even for non-xenophobes.
Guy DiRito - August 16, 2003 - Report this comment
Did you know anyone who died on 9/11/2001? I knew several people who went into the Pentagon that morning vertical and came out horizontal. If I am as you say xenophobic then I may have a justification for my feelings on the whole matter. And the parodies I write, they are just that, satire. I unlike, as you seem to be, can seperate reality from fiction.
Trace - August 16, 2003 - Report this comment
Yes, as a matter of fact, many of my fellow human beings died on 9/11. Based on the evidence, I believe al-Qaeda was to blame for that and I welcome its extermination. But what does any of that have to do with Iraq? Or the Dixie Chicks?
Guy DiRito - August 16, 2003 - Report this comment
Did you know anyone personally who died that day was the intent of the question? Sometimes occupation lends itself to privy on certain matters. My intent with the Chicks was to point out how the culture has changed since WWII and what the average American will put up with now. Had this been WWII and they were the Andrew sisters, they would have been lucky to have escaped some kind of charges and their careers would have been terminated instantly. I'm not saying that the Chicks should have anything like this happen to them but on the same note I think they lend apathy toward a danger that not only threatens us from outside our borders but also from within which is much more dangerous in my estimation. I just can't believe how naive the average American is. I spent more than a few years defending this country during the cold war and with the reality of paying with my life if necessary, the right of one and all to speak as freely as they wanted even if, and especially if I did not agree with the sentiments. I have my right to my opinion as you also do. We may agree to disagree but that is America. I just don't ever want that right to go away.
Trace - August 16, 2003 - Report this comment
Beg pardon, but you really inflamed this thread with your 2:19:22 AM post. You brought 9/11 into it (as if that has anything to do with the Dixie Chicks), you slammed Islam as a whole, and you said "What the hell is wrong with you people?" to those who were doing nothing more than discussing freedom of speech. Yes, Guy, things have changed in the past 60 years. It's called progress.

trace, you are offending every female here with your assumption that females cannot think for themselves. As for me agreeing with Guy all the time as you say...no, I don't think so. I know for sure that if Guy was a Gore fan, I would be calling him down on it.
Trace - August 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Pat, I do not believe that women are unable to think for themselves, nor have I ever said anything remotely resembling that. Are you familiar with the straw man fallacy? As for the rest of your comment, um...same question.
Michael Pacholek - August 18, 2003 - Report this comment
Has anybody noticed that Natalie Maines' comment about Bush had nothing to do with 9/11? She seemed to be suggesting she was ashamed because of the way Bush was going to war, which has yet to be proven to have had anything to do with 9/11. In fact, one can be ashamed of what Bush did from 1/20 to 9/10, let alone since 9/11. (I said CAN be, not necessarily SHOULD be.) Criticizing "The President" is not the act of a traitor. If it was, there would be a hell of a lot of people who were jailed from 1993 to 2001, including some who post here. Remember January '98? "Never before have I felt ashamed to be an American!" -- Alan Keyes. Nobody arrested him for that, nor should they have. No one should be arrested for criticizing Bush, or his successor, whoever that turns out to be in 2005 or 2009 (or in between, depending on his health and whether the Democrats in Congress grow a spine).

Two things, one, I liked this parody, not because it is bashing someone that was ashamed of the president, but because it's about current events, well, past current events. And Two, this paradoy isn't bashing the Dixie Chicks, from what I can see, It's stating a fact. People stopped LIKING the Dixie Chicks, it seems. I don't know, and I really don't care, this, while it wasn't funny, had a point. That was that one shouldn't speak ones mind unless one is willing to get their thoughts turned upon them.

YOU SUCK AND THE DIXIE CHICKS KICK MAJOR ASS
Bubba - November 29, 2003 - Report this comment
No, Lindz, I don't suck, you do, and as you can see, I'm not slighting the Dixie Chicks' talent whatsoever...in fact, I think I acknowledged it. And it's true, they broke no laws by saying what they said, but the event did undoubtedly have a negative effect on their popularity in the music business, right or wrong, much like Lennon's oft-taken-out-of-context quote about the Beatles being "more popular than Jesus," or Sinead O'Connor's tearing up the Pope's picture on Saturday Night Live. The Beatles weathered out the storm...Sinead didn't. Will the Chicks? Probably, but only time will tell.

The song was quite entertaining. I enjoy listening to the Dixie Chicks, but I also enjoyed reading your parody with the tune in my head. I have no ill feelings toward the Dixie Chicks nor yourself, I think you both expressed each of your rights freely. I commend you and the Dixie Chicks for the expression of the rights this country has permitted for its citizens. Whether I agree with each of the comments is really not important for anyone but myself. I'm just glad you entertained me for those brief minutes it took me to read your parody. Have a good day.

Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks went to a foreign nation where Natalie told the world she was embarrassed to be from the same state as USA President Bush. You don't have to agree with the President. You don't have to be proud of him -- you can be embarrassed, and you can scream it out loud, in true American style -- but leave the discord at the waters' edge. The Chicks have been taking licks from what used to be their audience because they didn't realize this... although there is a market segmentation component, because you just don't see too many rowdy, liberal Democrat, MoveOn.Org, redneck, anti-war, anti-Bush (AWAB) country music fans. Like Charley the Tuna, the Chicks are confused about what is good taste and what tastes good. Musically, it doesn't get much better than when the Erwin sisters start plucking out a country tune and Natalie starts growling. Okay, Natalie is not all that good. But to a USA country music fan, the AWAB position is insane because it's unpatriotic on its face. An AWAB country music fan is like a Chinese rap band singing Run-DMC style about how you should do your chores, obey your parents, and love the government... lame! The writer makes a good point. We don't want to shoot the Dixie Chicks, we want to fire them.

Great job Bubba! I had your lyrics made this into a karaoke CD using the original soundtrack so that I can counter with it every time I hear a bunch get up and do the original. Every time I do this song it will be For yoU Toby Keith!
