The Lyrics

CalTech's application asks that you 'fill this page with something interesting.' So I decided to fill it with a parody about applying to college, and then proceeded to write one.
Where's my transcript? I have no transcript in my files! Oh, there it is....

Have you ever filled out papers stayin' up 'til midnight, I have, and now I'm writin' yet another rewrite, just go sign on the dotted line, crap, look at the time! Crazy's my mind as my applications get behind, all this commotion, emotions run deep, an application downloadin', tempers flaring from parents, just write that essay, please keep goin', stop tellin' me I'm a slow one, fill out papers long as i'm breathin', churnin' out essays this mornin', churning out essays in the evening, leaves me feelin' like I am just a little bit burned out, look how they trigger me so they can try to figure me out, look at me now, I bet ya' probably sick of me now, ain't you mama, Cause I'm'a actin' really meticulous now...

[CHORUS]

I'm sorry mama, I never meant to hurt you,
I never meant to stress you out,
But this year, I'm signin' up for college, {one more time},
I said I'm sorry mama, I never meant to hurt you,
I never meant to stress you out,
But this year, I'm signin' up for college.

I got a resume in my closet but I don't know just where I put it, it couldn't'a gotten thrown into the garbage can, could it? I'll re-input it. I still recall when I was still free, only 'bout 3 hours of homework, that was normal for me. Now I'm a Senior, I've been one just a couple of months, and already I feel like my whole life's one big crunch, I can't quit, I have to kiss my social life goodbye, wait a sec, on second thought, I never had one to die. I look at CalTech and I realize I just can't not apply, even if I hate all this, I grit my teeth and I try to make just one more essay for the future's sake, I maybe made some mistakes but I'm only human, but I have'ta just apply anyway. This song's kinda stupid, no doubt it is dumb, but the smartest thing I did was this song, just for a bit of fun! Or I'd be brain-dead, dang, it would have made my brain burnt toast, here's my life, I'd like to welcome y'all to the super-stressed show...

[CHORUS]

Well, I didn't - but it was me that turned down CalTech, not the other way around ;-). I got in early decision to my first choice, Harvey Mudd, so I had to cancel all my other applications. Actually, I'm thinking about the next college-centric parody now - "My School Is Mudd" of "My Name Is Mud". Thanks for the compliment, though.

Funniest line: I never had one to die. And the 're-input it' was cute. ...yeah, cute, that's the word I was after... You should do a third verse about the outcome, and work on syllables per line a little more. Nice work!

Haha... thanks. Yeah, I'm not incredibly proud of this parody - I was obviously under time pressure writing it, so I didn't get to perfect it like I would have normally. (Also it was near the beginning of my parody writing experience, so it probably wouldn't have been that great anyway, but...) Thanks for voting, anyway.

:D Boy am I glad to be done with that. Well, unless I want to go to grad school, which is likely. So never mind.
