The Lyrics

From The Album "Hungry Like The Goat"
It's a secret never told
I see you standing there and I just want to hold
You in my arms, I've loved you from the very start
Now I just can't hold it in
This time I'm gonna let you know

I wish that you were mine
I see you all the time
The room lights up when you walk inside

When you're sad I want to dry up all your tears
When you're scared I want to get rid of your fears
And I want to be there for you through the years
And I want you forever

When I'm feeling bad
I just think of you and I'm all right
I just stand in your presence
And I pray it would never end
I see your face, and I'm happy I'm alive
I see you in my mind I long to see you again

Why can't I be with you
I'll see we make it through
I promise to be there for you always

When you're sad I want to dry up all your tears
When you're scared I want to get rid of your fears
And I want to be there for you through the years
And I want you forever

I've tried so hard just to forget that you're here
But every time I see you, I fall in love all over again

When you're sad I want to dry up all your tears
When you're scared I want to get rid of your fears
And I want to be there for you through the years
And I want you forever

For those that don't get it, this song is not supposed to be funny, at least that's the intension. I don't think parodies HAVE to be funny. My thoughts on a parody is the opposite of the original. That's exactly what this is. This is also about the closest I'll get to a real song. If you read any of my other songs that don't seem like your traditional parody, it's because it's one of my (what I like to call) "semi-parodies". I just like to do something a little different.

I read the lyrics you wrote while listening to the record... the timing is pretty close... it's a little off in the chorus just because you added some words that take a little longer to say/drag.... other then that I loved it... and I agree fully that a parody does not have to be funny. the lyrics are beautiful and I think it has a very sweet message... thats deffinatly something that if it was recorded I would spin at a wedding or something =) kudos Regards, DJ omniomi (omers)

Wouldn't it be great if I got famous and actually did record this song? Thanks for the support.

Just to say, this is my very favorite song in the whole wide world. The parody just gave me another reason to love it. This was a very thought-out, touching, and painful parody. I am very moved. I can't put into words all the great things I want to say about it. If you want to email me, go to salemslot9aol.com or underworldprisoner@yahoo.com Thank you for this little bit of happiness. Love Always Trish. P.S. At least I got it that it wasn't supposedto be funny and that's all that matters :-)

4-3-5. Heavy duty, melancholy, but a thoughtful and very well-crafted parody.

Good job MysteryGoat. 5 stars. I have just added a new Shania Twain parody to the Shania Twain section that I think you would enjoy. There is even a link to a sample of the original song. Any comments or votes would be graciously appreciated. This is a parody of "Whose Bed Has Your Boots Been Under?" and although it says written by "Twain/Lange", it was ofcourse written by me.

Well written song. Obviously doesn't get the "funny" vote, but well written, as it was intended
Claude Prez - March 05, 2004 - Report this comment
It was very thoughtful; well done.

Hmmm...really good use of the original song, and good pacing. You play off of it in a lot of areas, which I can now appreciate more thans to Johnny :c). Really good job. I won't grade you down because it's 'Not Funny', because it's not intended to be funny. However, if you do another one like this, throw the reader a bone in the opening comments by explaining how it isn't SUPPOSED to be a funny parody. It will reduce the "what was that !!!!" comments that you get, I believe.

Yeah, I agree with 2nz... though I wasn't confused because I'd been reading peoples' comments in the voting thread. Anyway, assuming that "how funny" can be transmuted to "how well written," you get 5s.

By the way, here's an orange with 4-4-5 carved on it.

Thanks for all the feedback. I know most of it was from the contest but it's still nice to see. Thanks again.
