The Lyrics

From The Album "Something Goats Can Dance To"
Just sit and think a moment
What if you were to live longer
Than just a hundred years
What would you do with all that time

Just think some more for a moment
Imagine things being better
Then they have been so far
Live in a world that's not so hard

Think of all the time to spend
Youth and health that wouldn't end
Imagine, inside a world better than this
And you have yourself eternity to live

Keep that in mind for a moment
You see your kids
And what they're living in
It's practically sin, yeah
Forever seems unkind

Now think ahead for a moment
You're growing old
And you whither away into a shell
What you once were back in the day

Think of all the things to do
How can you leave when there's much to learn
And so much left to find
Imagine all bad things to end
Imagine, the world was brand-new, what would you do
When you have yourself eternity to live

Time goes by too fast
Everything's in the past
Start to take your last
Then you blink and you're gone
Too little time had passed
And now you're done

Just sit and think for a moment
Could this be real
Or is it just fantasy from someone's mind
Believing a truth, remaining blind

More than just a couple years
End of all unhappy tears
Never let this world replay
Hope to see it one day

Think of all the time to spend
Youth and health that wouldn't end
Hey, Imagine, inside a world better than this
And you have yourself eternity to live

Obviously the most different thing I've done so far. Hope everyone finds it decent enough.

(SOTM) Sorry, MG...DKTOS also. :-(

(SOTM) I kept drifting into Lennon's "Imagine" there in the middle, MG, for obvious reasons - I don't mind a philosophical parody, although it would help if I knew the OS

SOTM - Catches the feel of the music, maybe even better than the original, but there's gotta be something a little bit more funny happen during a centennial parody, or is that just me? Probably is.

Not exactly a laugh riot, but nice job reversing the mortality message of the original. Speaking of the original, it's one of those songs I love even though my dominant cynical side tells me there's no way in hell I should. Worse, the damn thing always chokes me up. (Of course, I'll always be very careful not to reveal something like that in a public forum.) Anyhoo - back to the eternity theme of your rewrite: I don't know if I'd really want to live forever; I keep thinking how long I'd have to work to save up for retirement.

(SOTM) What Stu said, looks like a hard OS to parody well, you did a good job on it.

(SOTM) Awww, what a lovely note to wrap up the entries. Valumart from the Barry Trotter books uses his immortality to great effect regarding compound interest investments.

(SOTM) Quite contemplative.....it reminds me of something Joseph Campbell once said: "Eternity isn’t some later time. Eternity isn’t even a long time. Eternity has nothing to do with time. Eternity is that dimension of here and now that all thinking in temporal terms cuts off. And if you don’t get it here, you won’t get it anywhere. The problem with heaven is that you will be having such a good time there, you won’t even think of eternity. You’ll just have this unending delight in the beatific vision of God. But the experience of eternity right here and now, in all things, whether thought of as good or as evil, is the function of life."

(SOTM) Well thought out parody. Nice job.

Well, between your parody and Johnny D's comment, my brain totally hurts. The desired effect, I'm guessing. Well done.

SOTM...MysteryGoat, your parodies often leave me thinking...which I usually resent, but I'm smiling now. I have to say that I never get tired of the OS...and this was a nice little version of it.

(SOTM) Is this like Highlander? Where he gets to see everyone else die, but he has to live on?
2nz - November 01, 2005 - Report this comment
That's deep man. Almost as deep as the mystery of the goat. Where my head is at right now, it's thanks to you. And thanks for this one. It is, as you say, quite different.
