The Lyrics

This isn't really funny, I'll admit, it's sick. Some anorexics make "tips 'n' tricks" websites that teach young girls how to binge and purge and show them pictures of emaciated women called "THINspiration." They call it the "pro-anorexia" or "pro-ana" movement. I stumbled across these sites when doing a report on bulimia and was horrified. Hence, a parody!
Uh huh, get a life
All you girls should get mad like this

Look at Karen Carpenter
You girls just do not wanna die like her
Please don't be a pro-ana girl
Please get help, pro-ana girls [x2]

Ooooh ooh, get a life, get a life [x4]

I've seen all that pro-ana sh*t
And for all my girls' sake, well, I fear it
Young girls see you talking like that, get their body image messed up
My parody attacks, you all should be smacked
All your sites will crash down, yahoo blocks you out
That's right, take your damn sites down, they get young girls' heads all messed up

Look at Karen Carpenter
You girls just do not wanna die like her
Please don't be a pro-ana girl
Please get help, pro-ana girls [x2]

Ooooh ooh, get a life, get a life [x4]

So Mary-Kate is your inspiration
And you post a little "thinspiration"
In your mind you need to be thinner, you get down to 91....
So you're gonna fast, gonna give it your all
Gonna not eat food, gonna take diet pills
One more pound, you're no longer standing, another one bites the dust

Look at Karen Carpenter
You girls just do not wanna die like her
Please don't be a pro-ana girl
Please get help, pro-ana girls [x2]

Ooooh ooh, get a life, get a life [x4]

Let me hear you say get a life, pro-anas
P-R-O-A-N-A-S
(Get a life, pro-anas)
(P-R-O-A-N-A-S)

Again
Damn, I hate pro-anas
P-R-O--A-N-A-S
Get a life, pro-anas
(P-R-O--A-N-A-S)

Look at Karen Carpenter
You girls just do not wanna die like her
Please don't be a pro-ana girl
Please get help, pro-ana girls [x2]

Ooooh ooh, get a life, get a life [x4]
Come on, girls, love your bodies for what they are. Don't buy into the skinny hype.

Not so funny but good song - more stuff needed like this - I write as a mum with a UK size 6 teen girl who dodges eating and wants to be thinner.. 5-4-5 ;)

Well-paced, not funny, but all 5s for the message. Pro-ana sites are disgusting, I agree.

Don't know the OS well enough to vote, but this was a really good message parody, and very true.

This is one of the at least half-decent "Hollaback Girl" parodies on the site, and is made even better by the fact it paces well and raises awareness on a horrifying subject. 5-5-(not for funny, but you weren't aiming for funny, so you acheved the goal, so 5.)-5.

Yup - not twisting the song towards funny, but still admirably twisting the song. 5'd.

This just makes me sick, as it's supposed to. ;)

Nice Banana/Pro-Ana replacement

545, because the tone of this anger-parody is leaning more towards "anger" than "parody" and the Karen Carpenter bit in the chorus was a tad startling. I still liked it a great deal.

You speak the Truth. Girls need better Icons. young females should not be fooled because of "thinspiration", they should have better idols like Harriet Tubman, not like Mary-Kate Olsen.

This parody has a great message. I wish more people would care enough to speak out like you.

I like the song. Very good message. Not all the words exactly fit the OS but it is good.

Starlette Victory, I know you probably only posted this parody because you hate pro-anas. Well, I used to be one of them. I was searching on Google for some more THINspiration, because I wanted to lose more weight. Instead, I stumbled across your parody. I read it and looked at the pro-ana sites. I saw pictures of Karen Carpenter, and then I looked at myself. My ribs were all showing, my stomach was caved in, my thighs were about as wide as your average dictionary, my cheekbones were popping out, and I was deathly (pun intended) pale. I knew right then that I needed to get help. I threw my diet pills away, blocked the pro-ana sites, started eating regularly again, and got help from a counselor. I am now reaching the average weight again, and I look a LOT better than I thought I ever would have as a pro-ana.
I just wanted you to know that your parody has turned my life around. If it weren't for you, I'd probably be dying right now.
Thank you Starlette Victory.

That's bull****. Some people are struggling here for that. Yah and I do have a life. A life of getting abused by people, being molested, and losing my friends. Going to mental hospitals for suicidal attempts. And no, that song is not funny. I cry every night hoping my life will get better, but it won't. my moms a druggie and alcoholic....so keep laughing at all those people that are struggling....do everyone a favor, and have some courtesy.

How dare you. next time be alittle more sensative about this tipic. people are dying of this. Theres no need for a parody. Its not funny. Next time try doing something more helpfull. This isnt the way to reach out.

this is not funny. anorexia is a serious illness and your disgusting comments on this issue through your parody are uncalled for and make me sick to think you really believe this a good way to get across to people. seek help.

Thank you for having the guts to post this song. If it helps even only one person, you did your job!

I hope by twisted fate you too are cursed with anorexia and the taste death. You're the one that needs to get a life. If you watch Kate Moss Snort Cocaine you do not become a Druggie, if you watch Lindsey Lohan knock back drink you do not become an alcoholic, if you watch them waste away you do not become anorexic. it's not contagious, it's an illness, and you're pathetic, that ten year olds poem is just foul humour, it doesn't help anything but promote ignorant sadistic narrow-minded people like you- you make me sick. screw all of you, you’ve no clue.

i'm sv's friend....the funny thing is she was anorexic for a very long time but recovered.
A horrible horrible person - July 30, 2007 - Report this comment
1. This is for the commenters. It is OBVIOUS that she didn't mean this parody to be funny. It's a light hearted reality check for anyone who *thinks* that they should try to develop an ED and for the people who encourage them by posting thinspiration.. 2. (talking to the author now)I abhor the fact that you even tried to make anorexia sound funny or even tried to make anorexia seem like a lifestyle. It's not something you can "snap out of" if you actually have the disease. 3. Anorexia is a DISEASE, not a LIFESTYLE. Let's get that clear, OK. 4. Thinspiration will always exist as long as the mass media exists. Even if its not listed as "thinspiration", you can find pictures of emaciated people anywhere.

I see, you have no idea, how it is to be anorexic.
