The Lyrics

I am a Great Scam Artist
To fool you I work the hardest
Pics of Bigfoot made my profits get large

I am a Great Scam Artist
At faking things I’m smartest
And I’ve got footage of Loch Ness, y’all… Hey

I got inspired by 40’s radio
When everyone believed in the UFOs
Now all my work’s featured on those TV shows
With some video of a Manbearpig right now on CBS
While CNN thinks that I simply jest
But they were once obsessed
With my Phantom Of Ozzfest
But now they think I’m fake
They think I’m fake
They think I’m fake, fake, fake, fake

I’m just a Great Scam Artist
I’m making monsters exist
And people all get so pissed when they’re not

I’m just a Great Scam Artist
You’ll see Mermaids in the Sea Mist
And I’ll swear to you that we’ve kissed, ya’ll… Hey

I’m hired by David Blaine’s press
Helping magicians
To make his hocus-pocus a much more impressive amount
Because it’s lame to just pull rabbits out of top hats
But once I’m done there I've got other plans
I’ll work on the fashion magazines
Featuring some new invention that gets sexy women in your jeans
While it’s obviously all make-believe
Still horny men listen, like when I pitched that Axe is divine
Raise up a toast, You got fooled by fake ghosts
When they all flew up from the grave
With their shrieks and their loud moans
From coast to the coast all the people get that in their post
So I am happy to boast
Because it’s the best occupation I’m the master of creation
I shot vampire bats who were going through transformation
To them it doesn’t matter if it’s made up
I’ll pull their leg, and get a million if I have luck

Cause I’m the Great Scam Artist
Got Atlantis down on my list
And I’m planning out a quick trip down there

Yeah, I’m the Great Scam Artist
And you’ve got to know the whole gist
Cause you see I simply am the best, y’all

I am the Great Scam Artist
No creature’s getting dismissed
You think that it’s just a myth till I bust

I am the Great Scam Artist
Got pictures of Basilisks
No news station’s going to resist it, Naw!

I run a small town business I’ve been open since Christmas
When I captured Santa Claus and his sleigh
All these suckers make me ritzy, which I spend on utilities
Costumes, masks and piles of video equipment all ready for editing
I’m on the News each night
Folks believe every sight
And they’re all afraid
“Slime creatures are creepy!”
All these other scam phonies are all angry and upset
They scream
“Oh, Damn you M-A-T-T!!!”

Hey! Hey! Hey!
Turning profits with my werewolf display
They saw blood dripping fangs and the howls bellow

A-Hey… Hey-ay!
Come see Martians on my videotapes
You can see the laser guns and their skin is yellow

I am the Great Scam Artist (Bucks!)
The Great Scam Artist (Punk’d!)
The Great Scam Artist (Fun!)
The Great Scam
(Oh ha ha!)
I’m the Great Scam Artist

And I am working here the hardest
Although guys aren’t the smartest
You’re fooled now!

Great Scams!

Hey there Sasquatch!

I’m a Great Scam Artist!

Great rhyming job.

Matty, half the songs I do you think are way too hard--and you generally don't put your best effort as a result, but this one--is the BEST parody I've ever read by you. You did a great job with the theme and rhyme scheme. The grammar was amazing, the idea fresh, the pacing was near perfect, but the thing that makes this impressive is the original song that it was done too. Neat Freak, Kill the Zombies, New Job as Death all pale in comparison to this one, and despite the fact that you chose the album version which meant skipping the ad lib part, I feel this one is stronger than my own "Pool Boy Prophet", this should be a SOTM contender assuming it is your entry--and if nothing else, you should slam the next G round!

Correction on my statement, half the song I do "That" you think are way too hard.

Man, one of your best, and only three comments/votes :) I'm emailing you back...great job!
Agrimorfee - August 14, 2008 - Report this comment
Pretty damned good alright...the Youtube I had didn't match chorus/bridges necessarily, but I think you did it honestly. My only concern was the Axe ad line--out of the realm of the Scam Artist and into Marketing (an entirely different scam art). But Dave is right, you took the effort on making each line count, with no grammar to make one's head scratch.

Phew! a lot of work has gone into this. great job.

Dammit, Matt. This shouldn't have worked, but you made it happen with some excellent original rhyme matching and your continued switching up of the 'scam artist' rhymes. Well done sir. A contender for sure.

It looks clever, it shows a LOT of work...but it doesn't turn me on. 5-4-5.

(Ages2) DKTOS on this one, so I'm gonna go with Dave's here, he knows what he's talking about.

AGES...this was a fun read, Matty...I've always liked Jason Mraz, but have yet to find an OS of his that I could parody...NICE work. =) And...as I am admittedly WAY too gullible, your little Con Artist would have a great victim in me.

(Ages) Thanks Bobpie:) I still love this one, and it's a great parody, slight stretch re-reading to make it criminal but close enough for me.
Invisible Boy - March 11, 2009 - Report this comment
Great write here Matty. I didn't know the OS, but I listened to the YouTube link and I can see all the cleverness you put into this. Great rhyme matching, references and images.

So... thank you for rooting me on even as I would never show up. I've been focusing more on things besides the site as of late, but this is now the second committment to a tournament that I've defaulted on in the past month. It makes me feel a jerk to think how inconsiderate I am in comparison to how timely and thoughtful the overall feeling of the site is and the work that you and everyone else put into making the tournaments work. I'm sorry, and it WON'T happen again.

(ABC-5G)

I too was unfamiliar with the OS until I listened to it on Youtube (a few times) and I echo what IB says above. Your rhyming matches and cleverness are way over the top.
Agrimorfee - May 18, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) My commentary above is 100% true and accurate...
Melanie Lee - May 26, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) See above. I'll add that I found the song hard to follow, but I did find a laugh or two when I read it without the music.
Stuart McArthur - May 28, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) clever and some very neat rhyming Matty - so it was you created all these mythical phenomena - I thought it was George W Bush - he can claim the WMD at least - not hilarious but well-researched and quite masterful - 555
Claude Prez - May 28, 2009 - Report this comment
Very good Matt
Red Ant - May 28, 2009 - Report this comment
That was great, Matt! Since you based it off of the album version, you might be able to find a backing track for it. Excellent idea and execution, and the choruses really shined, all without a case of rhymitis! =) 555

Ah yes, I remember this one, I like it quite a bit! Glad to see you brought this one back.

It may be a stretch for "criminal" but it's certainly not a stretch for "G", I absolutely love this one Matty--still one of my favorite by you of all time--you know I love TOS being the one to introduce it to AmIRight--expect a big point total from me on this one.

I fell for this one.

In the Artistry Battle of The Curbside Prophets, I award you Second Place for rhyming skills and consistency. And that aint no scam.

(Artistry) Yep, it's hard to believe people think all those things really exist...now I have to get back to preparing for the end of the world when the Mayan calendar runs out. Oh, and btw, excellent parody.

(Artistry) Now that I've listened to the OS for this, I can truly appreciate how much of a biatch this would've been to write. Fantastic work here, 555!

(Artistry) I loved this! I don't feel scammed at all (but was I?) LOL!
