The Lyrics

TJC wrote just about the whole thing -- TT DKTOS at the time, only added/tweaked a coupla' lines (with TJ's approval) and, I guess, acted as agent/manager in getting it on the air. They *liked* that it was only two verses -- leaves more time for commercials :-p
This was -- never the way I planned
At my convention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It's not what I'm used to
Just wanna try you on
I'm certain that you'll
Get their attention

I picked a girl -- and I like it
"WASP"-waisted, a take-no-crap chick
I picked a girl -- just to try it
I hope Lieberman don't mind it
It felt so wrong
But she's so "right"
Think that I'm in luck tonight
I picked a girl and I like it
I like it

Not so sure he'd be singing that tune today. © 2008 TJC and Tommy Turtle. All rights reserved. E-mail: tomm...@yahoo.com

I don't know 'bout everyone else, but to paraphrase Katie Perry channeling Sally Field, "I liked it, I really liked it!" (Please contact at: Bias-schmias@self-serving.com)

alvin, i think you're right that it might have cost him the election. thanks for v/c
TJC, TJC thanks you for your compliments on TJC's work. (signed, TT channeling for TJC).
AFW, thanks.

I think that what mostly cost the election for McCain was the economy tanking and Republicans getting the blame (some of it justified). I might have liked more than 2 verses, but if someone were going to hire me to write a parody and specified that I limit it to 2 verses, I would give the buyer what he asked for. Well done.

John Jenkins: I agree that the economy was an issue, and that there were multiple reasons for the way it turned out. However, IMHO, Palin *did* seem unprepared with answers for questions of fact or policy -- much less so today, I think. She's evolved quite a bit, for better or for worse, depending on whose side you're on, of course.

TJC and I learned our lesson when the full version of "Shouldn't It Be Hillary" -- thank you for your kind v/c on that just now -- was cut by more than half, as the intro there notes. So the producer and I discussed the radio business and the need to get all those commercials in.

Bottom line: Parodies, two minutes, tops. One to one-and-a-half minutes is ideal. As you said, we gave him what he wanted, and we didn't waste time writing verses that would just be cut anyway. Thanks for understanding that, and for the kind v/c.
