The Lyrics

Really? Nobody's addressed this song on the site yet? I have to come out of retirement to bitch out Kid Rock for sampling two catchy songs at once, adding some crappy lyrics, and finding a hit? Whatever, I'm fine being a hater this time. Every time I hear the beginning of the song on the radio, I keep HOPING that some ballzey radio host put on Werewolves of London, and I keep getting disappointed. For those of you who have no idea what I'm on about, go listen to Werewolves of London on youtube.
(Lead)
It was 1989, and I was eating chips of paint
Dreamin’ I’d be famous and a hit
Knew I couldn’t sing, and I just couldn’t write a thing
That won’t undermine my dreams, I wouldn’t quit

(Choir)
Boooo
Boooooooo
Booooooooooooo

Boooo
Boooooooo
Booooooooooooo

(Lead)
Since no talent found me
Hot chicks will surround me
And I’ll do dumb things like never wearing shirts
And using double negatives
Repeating all my adjectives
But when they say I suck that really hurts

And I was writing stupid things
And I was singing stupid things
Making stupid videos where things don’t belong
Bring up whiskey and martinis
More hot chicks in bikinis
Ripping off ‘Werewolves of London’ all summer long
Ripping off ‘Werewolves of London’ all summer long

I must say it feels so nice
To be the next Vanilla Ice
I don’t care, my screaming fans all know my name
You see it’s not a crime
To sample two songs at one time
But for a biggest hit some call it lame

And I was writing stupid things
And I was singing stupid things
Making stupid videos that don’t work again
It was taxing on the Kid’s brain
To write this weak-ass refrain
Singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ in Michigan?
Singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ in Michigan?

(Choir)
Boooo
Boooooooo
Booooooooooooo

Boooo
Boooooooo
Booooooooooooo

(Lead)
Now I say what the heck, I am a wannabe red-neck
But if it makes them cheer, that’s where it’s at
Sometimes they bitch and moan, that my chords are not my own
But the music industry embraces that
Music industry embraces that

And I was writing stupid things
And I was singing stupid things
Making stupid videos where things don’t belong
Bring up whiskey and martinis
More hot chicks in bikinis
Ripping off ‘Werewolves of London’ all summer long
Ripping off ‘Werewolves of London’ all summer long

And I was writing stupid things
And I was singing stupid things
Making stupid videos that don’t work again
It’s still taxing on the Kid’s brain
To write this weak-ass refrain
Singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ in Michigan

Ripping off ‘Werewolves of London’ all summer long
Singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ in Michigan
Singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ ‘cause I’m a douche
Ripping off ‘Werewolves of London’ all summer long
Really, it's on youtube, and it's chords didn't deserve this.

I've wanted to take on this song for a while but I haven't had a good enough idea that I was able to develop. This was a good enough idea, and I've you've got anything resembling the time you should stay out of retirement.

Beautifully skewered!

Great job with the parody. 555 reasons to stay unretired.

I must agree. When I first heard the piano chords, I thought "Someone remade Werewolves of London?" Then I heard Kid Rock and turned it off. What a shame. Poor Zevon must be spinning in his grave.

This is weird, Sir . . . but then CowboyJim was in the movie, " Werewolf of Boston ". He was the ambulance driver . . . CowboyDave got him his one, & only Hollywood gig !

Here's the kind of math Kid Rock learned at Waffle House:
London + Alabama = Michigan.

This parody *had* to be written, Glenz, and I'm glad the right man did it.

Great lycanthrope themed parody. I've always had a huge interest in lycanthropy. I believe lycanthropy dates back to medieval times or something like that.

(SOTM) Some great internal rhyme matches to the original here. Muchos laughter over ripping into the video

(SOTM-Sep-08)

The parody is a smooth collision of Werewolves and Sweet Home with a yankee slap at Kid Rock (head).

Can't believe I haven't commented on this one already, I know I've read it, because it was great to see you back and I thought this parody was hilarious, and I wanted to be the one to pop the "All Summer Long" cherry, but alas I guess I'm too late, but not on was it's cherry popped, but it looks like it was also crackled and snapped.

SOTM - Who would have thought Kid Rock should have the big summer hit of 2008? And who would have thought 2nz would come out of retirement to trash it? This place never stops to amaze me! :-)

SOTM - LOL @ Luke's comment. The lyrics seem a little jumpy and confusing, but when you match up the video with your parody it makes a lot more sense. Literal laughing out loud at the "double negative" line in congruence with the "didn't have no internet". It's all about the little things, ain't it? Super comeback.

(SOTM) Hey, I like sampling! But then it can go a bit overboard, eg this one and some of Diddy's stuff. A bit harsh, but everyone has the right to a rant. You nailed the pacing as well. 555 for you!

SOTM- Great job! Favorite lines:" And I’ll do dumb things like never wearing shirts And using double negatives Repeating all my adjectives" and "I must say it feels so nice To be the next Vanilla Ice". I actually kinda like the OS but I can appreciate the parody of Kid.

(SOTM) The lines were so well placed, I loved the "Double Negatives" being placed in a line where he did just that. It sucks that this month is so strong, because I'm going to have real trouble making my top 5, you are my 8th song written down as a strong contender, with one song still to come. Strong write, and impressive considering the relative ease of TOS

Hey...I like what you're sayin'...you know what I'm sayin' ?
To me a sample=I’m too lame to be original so I will steal a piece music that is already popular and insert it into my schlock
I've written about this before as some of you know.
I love your POV and I love this parody.

Some parodies are funny, even if they are cheap shots where the criticism is not well-founded. "The Black Bird" and "The Rutles" are examples of this, where they are actually a tribute to "The Maltese Falcon" and "The Compleat Beatles." The original was great, and the parody is as much a tip of the hat as anything, reveling humorously in the original, but not as criticism. At best, your parody fits this category, superficially funny, a laugh for its own sake, but not really criticism that lands any punches. Nor should it. That said, much sampling is a rip off, the rap equivalent of the incredible pap that was Hooked on Classics. 'All Summer Long' is something else--it is what all sampling should strive to be. It is not a ripoff of either of the songs it samples, but it is its own superb piece of music that also tells a great story, interlacing pieces of the songs from the time it captures, to great aural impressionistic effect. In other words, "it's genius." Obvious to those who already get it, and as is so often the case, incomprehensible to those who do not. I won't judge the intent of the parody--it could go eiher way on its own merits, and this medium doesn't resolve that. But a great deal of the audience here is ascribing serious criticism to it, which is unwarranted. It is fine as a shallow laugh, having fun in the context of a significant work. But it is trivial by comparison to that work.

Thank you all for the support everyone. It's good to be back and to make fun of Kid Rock in the process. And Mike C, thank you for legitimizing the medium of amiright for me. Without a 'Kid' backer, I think this parody would have been incomplete. I just think it's fair to poke fun at a guy who shot a video in Wisconsin where he sings 'Sweet Home Alabama' about Michigan. That's all I'm saying.

Great Glen, I think you handled Mike C's comment like a gentleman. And I loved your parody. I actually like the Kid Rock song, but your parody made me laugh, which was the point...I never did get that about Sweet Home Alabama and he is from Michigan? Oh well...lol

OK wow. This is fantastic. I have mixed feelings about this. First of all, I'm pretty sure "Sweet Home Alabama" came before "Werewolves of London". Either way, I'm embarrassed it sort of blew my mind that they matched so well, and honestly, kudos to Kid Rock for pointing it out. I'm with Mike C. in a way; it's actually a decent song, though I probably only say that because it's one of the few "country songs" I don't totally hate when my coworkers subject me to it. But that doesn't change the fact that this parody is f*cking great, and a perfect example of why 2nz is one of my all-time favorite Amiright parodists. Great stuff!
