Original Song Title:

"God Bless the USA"

Original Performer:

Lee Greenwood

Parody Song Title:

"God(s) Bless the USA"

Parody Written by:

John Harvey

The Lyrics

If tomorrow all our troops had gone
To go and bomb Iraq
Our only hope for peace
Is a Dick Cheney heart attack

I don't like stupid wars
It's not hard to explain
Conservatives say it's moral
But it's really just insane

I'm still proud to be an American
Though Bush oppresses me
I don't want any men to die
so very needlessly

The Right tells me to shut up
Cover ears and block out what I say
But there ain't now doubt I love this land
God(s) bless the USA

After that it's North Korea
And I really cannot see
Why AWOL boy from Texas
Dictates to you and me

I'm still proud to be an American
Though Bush oppresses me
I don't want any men to die
so very needlessly

The Right tells me to shut up
Cover ears and block out what I say
But there ain't now doubt I love this land
God(s) bless the USA

I'm still proud to be an American
Though Bush oppresses me
I don't want any men to die
so very needlessly

The Right tells me to shut up
Cover ears and block out what I say
But there ain't now doubt I love this land
God(s) bless the USA

I would like to apologize. I actually skipped half of the second verse in my parody. I didn't copy and paste correctly. Here's the rest of the verse that should start after the North Korea stanza: So people all around me, Hearken to my cry We must show that America wants no part In allowing men to die

A US Soldier - March 30, 2003 - Report this comment
You are the type of person that would just let another country come in and take over. I can not see how you can say that you are proud to be an American. There are allot of things that people see this war as being but no one sees it as a meens to stop the very people that if given a chance would kill every one of us in the US. I am truly proud to be an American and I will go fight and if it is to be die for this country and for our commander and chief. I listen to people all the time say that if they brought back the draft they would leave the country well all that I can say is that they are yellow and should just go ahead and leave now. But as a US Soldier it is my job to protect and defend those that can not or will not fight for this country. Even though I don't like the Idea of defending those that burn the US flag saying that they are a US citizen. These are the people that in my opinion would rather roll over and die then fight. I say Love it to the Death or get the Hell out. See if you can find the freedoms that you have in this great country in another one. Never Forget 9/11/01

I thank you for your bravery. I thank you for laying your life on the line so that I can write these parodies from the comfort of my own home without having to worry about Bin Ladin popping out of my mail box. However, I don't believe that you are fighting for the interest of our, or anyother country. I don't think that the lives that will be lost in this campaign will justify the good that this war will do. I'm a good Roman Catholic kid. The Pope declared this to be an unjust war (see "Just War Theory") I guess I have to follow my pontiff.
Bubba - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Oh, come off of it. Not fighting for the interests of our country? Saddam Hussein tortures and gasses his own people, invades Kuwait, violates UN resolutions for 12 years, harbors known terrorists, publicly cheers 9-1-1, and he's not a threat to us? I guess we should just wait for him to attack us - which I guarantee he (or his protege, Usama) wouldn't wait for UN approval to do. The President took an oath to defend our country, and if he didn't do it, then I'd have a problem. If I'm going to paint somebody as a bad guy, it's gonna be Saddam. As for wishing Cheney would have a heart attack and die...that's just sick.
John Harvey - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Bubba, you act like this is something I haven't heard before. He invaded Kuwait 12 years ago and should have been taken out then. Bush Sr. decided to watch the rebels get horribly slaughtered instead. Since then Saddam has laid low and played hide and seek with inspectors. He has no interest in attacking the US. He wants to maintain control of Iraq through brutal means, just like several dozen other dictators (some of which we are calling our allies). Going to war to get Saddam out of power is a futile exercise in death and destruction. Nothing will be accomplished. I repeat, Saddam is not a threat to the US. He is not interested in picking a fight with us. As far as the Cheney thing is concerned, when you complain about a Florio parody that wishes death upon liberals, I will take your complaint seriously. People made fun of Gerald Ford for falling a couple times, is this anything different? Lighten up and quit fooling yourself, we aren't going to war for "Iraqi Freedom".
Obscurist - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Never Forget 9/11, Never use 9/11 to justify this war. Bush will make more terrorists with this campaign.
Billy Florio - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Where do I ever say "Death to the liberals"?..oh wait, Michael might..Im not sure
John Harvey - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Well, I was talking about Michael. But I made a mistake. He never wished death on liberals, but he does have an awful lot of attack parodies directed at liberal writers [see "Jack @$$ (The William Tong Story)"]. I could have sworn there was a parody written that advocated violence against liberals. Maybe I'm mixing parodies and Ann Coulter. Sorry if I hurt feelings.
Billy Florio - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
its alright John
Bubba - March 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Bush Sr. was playing by the UN's rules when he pulled the troops out of Iraq, since the "mission" was finished (liberating Kuwait). You criticize him for complying with the UN, but chastize his son for deciding not to comply. Sounds like you just want to criticize them, period, no matter what they do. As for Saddam "laying low" since the Gulf War, as you assert he has done, Usama Bin Laden has also "laid low" since 9/11 - are you saying we should stop pursuing him too, since he hasn't done anything lately? Maybe we should just wait until somebody strikes the US again, and then wonder what we might have done to prevent it. Not me, sorry.
Lcpl Robert A. Vasquez - April 04, 2003 - Report this comment
You are a disgrace to the U.S.A. This is coming from a U.S. Marine. You have no idea what coalition forces are there for. You're just another low life civilian with nothing better to do and protest. They are there to defend our way of life and to fight enemies of freedom.
John Harvey - April 04, 2003 - Report this comment
I have all the respect in the world for the marines, but George Bush is sending them to die in vain. This war will not make the world a safer place. It is a war that has been pursued by the United States and Britain without any kind of legitimization by the U.N. We have set up a new precedent in making war. We can now make war on a country that is merely a perceived threat to the U.S. Taking out Saddam will do little or no good without international backing. Right now we're just beating the hornet's nest.
John Harvey - April 04, 2003 - Report this comment
Actually, this is not one of my best parodies. I don't really like it myself. It's too simple and it makes for easy pot-shots for the pro-war camp.
lillian schwartz - April 04, 2003 - Report this comment
I thought the parody was ridiculous. Joking about dick Cheney having a heart attack is just plain sick. And what the heck do you mean Suddam Hussein is not a threat to the U.S.? He kills his own people so why wouldn't he want to kill us? I may only be 14 years old, but dang, you're not a real smart guy when it comes to politics (Or song parodys, I like Weird Al better.) Just a bit of advice for you to think about: You shouldn't write song parodys. You suck. Leave it to Weird Al.

Just for the information of the resident parrot ditto heads, this was written about four and a half months ago when it was ok to make fun of our leaders. I would also request that you keep your self-righteous preaching to yourself. Don't lecture me. Don't tell me that I'm stupid, or at least wait until you have your drivers license to do so. Dear friend John, I would request, no DEMAND that you keep your immature remarks/song lyrics to your nasty self, please. I support our President as a TRUE AMERICAN, unlike you! He is doing the best he can to get rid of Suddam Hussein and the other top leaders of Iraq to better the lives of those citizens. Oh and by the way, I didn't call you stupid, I just said that you aren't a real smart guy. Why don't you write back to Veronica Sinclair or whatever her name is, she seems to like you, unlike me.

I reserve my right to create poorly paced parodies that mock our president. You can support him if you like, but I prefer to poke him in the eye. You can demand all you want but it won't make it so. Your word isn't law here. Who do you think you are? Saddam Hussein? George W.? Unless you wield absolute power, like those guys, you can't demand anything fro-... Hey! Wait a second! Proud American Woman - April 07, 2003 - Report this comment
I am so sorry for the ignorance of others who can't see the very credible threat that Saddam and others like him pose to the people of this great country. Any intelligent person must see that a power-hungry tyrrant like Saddam is not going to be satisfied with one little country like Iraq. Saddam is only 'hiding' to bide his time. Do not doubt that while he is 'hiding', he is formulating a plan for the destruction of anyone who does not share in his beliefs or do his bidding. He has proven this by gassing the Kurds and the Sheites and oppressing his own people. He is not stable and must be stopped. Those who believe that we are breeding more Osamas by engaging those who threaten us should stop and think for a moment...Do you really believe that by doing nothing we are creating a better situation. The terrorists will still be there whether or not we choose to address the situation. You are acting like the cancer patient who thinks that if they ignore the cancer it won't be there. Those are the ones who die. War is ugly. I don't think anybody truly wants a war(except for Saddam and those like him). I hope for a speedy end to the war and the safe return of our brave soldiers. In the meantime I will pray for them and the people of Iraq.

I totally agree with Proud American Woman. War IS ugly, but we have to get rid of Suddam Hussein and the other sick minded peolpe like him, and war is what Suddam chose. Anyways, that was well written Proud American Woman.

Pass the barf bag with the American flag on it. Don't make me laugh. Are you saying only ex-presidents have the right to judge the current administration? I don't think I'll leave this country as I have a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers. To all the US 'Soliders' I say I'm sorry you have to put up with our flag waving BS over here while you risk your life over in there in We-Love-America-Land (meant sarcastically). I'm sorry that we sent over 200 of your friends to their deaths and I'm sorry that George W. is cutting Veterans benifits.

I wouldn't mind introducing Georgie Bush to a few Pittsburgh Steelers, like Mean Joe Greene and Mad Dog White and Jack Lambert and Mel Blount. (Yeah, I know, they're in their 50s now, but so is Georgie, and his age wouldn't matter anyway. Besides, the Steelers always used to beat the...Oilers.) After all, he didn't carry Pennsylvania. Too many unions and blacks, and not enough hunters.

You song was poorly paced, but this isn't a forum for professionals. I'm sure if it was pro-Bush, none of his zombies would be complaining. I wouldn't. I don't care. It's all part of living in a free country. I hope you continue to post songs, I wouldn't even waste time responding to these people. Keep posting more songs! They're distracting you! Don't let them. I feel sorry for the so-called Marine who posted that inappropriate message. I know a thing or two or three about the Marines, and they're the best we got...but even the best get dragged down by scrubs sometimes, ignore him.

Hey i loved ur parody..keep on makin "educational" songs like this one. Im glad that some people actually have brains and think. I just think that war is not something to be rushed into un advisedly. There never was anly link between Saddam an Al Queda. This has been prooven. Everyone who has a brain knoes that 9/11 gave bush an excuse to go into iraq becuz he (Dubya) didnt like the regime of saddam. Like it or not...we r staring at the makings of another vietnam. War has never been a video game...but bush i guess thinks it is. Oh wait how could bush knoe....he never actually tasted the cordite like John kerry did.

Wow... I was an angry, assholey guy back then. I still think Bush is an idiot and I hold with a lot of my leftists stances, but I'd like to think I don't come at people with "don't make me laugh". I don't really like this parody, but it reminds me of my self-righteous stupid head stage.
