'05 was pretty sad since we didn't see
The New York Yankees fight to save their dynasty.
They won the A.L. East and Boston took the Wild Card
But from then on the Yankees' life turned hard.

Well, in th'ALDS, they did tie it up
With L.A.'s Angels, who made them give it up.
And Yankee fans, like I, were crushed to see them go home.
A long offseason came with changes in the way.

When I hear the Yankees cry within their souls,
I would long help them reach their wanted goal.
And the fans, I know, find it hard to hold back tears.
Some felt five years of loss, too long. Oh-oh. Oh-oh.

But I can't keep crying with this broken heart.
It's as if my world, like theirs, was torn apart.
We're all still alive, breathing air like every day.
They didn't win this year. Next year they...will.

When Stottlemyre left, Torre stayed with them
And A-Rod told the world he was not the best.
This Yankee fan right here, she feels so saddened and blue
That till spring training comes, she don't know what to do.

Tino, if you leave, we'll share the memories
That you left with Torre and the company.
Ruben's signed away to the world of the FA

Brian Cashman's stayin' here for two more years
During which I'm sure he'll give the Yankees cheer.
"Yankees, please don't cry," are the words he has to say.
"We didn't win this year. Next year, we...will."

George Steinbrenner's vowed to do all he can
[To] make next season good as it can be.
Pray, with the changes that are made,
Their heroism brings the Stars in Stripes a 27th ring. Yeah!

Soon the Yankees won't be crying through their souls.
They will keep on fighting till they reach their goal.
Ev'rything they do will be drafted carefully
