The Lyrics

Yay! Another parody finished... again, the idea came last night, scribbled a note to myself, sat down today and wrote the whole thing out. Incidentally, guess what I'm not doing because I was writing this instead?
I put it off, now I better get my homework started
I put it off, now I better get my homework started

Get my homework started cause it's now Sunday night
Realize my timing was not very bright
Stick an away message for all of my friends
If you try distracting me I'll make your life end
I've got lotsa physics then I got some DEs
I've got chem and Lin.Al. then I've got MultiV's
I put it off, now I better get my homework started (I'm doin' work, I promise)
I put it off, now I better get my homework started

Plus I've got a tech report to finish and then,
Pages for an essay, maybe 8, 9 or 10
Now my mind is racing cause these deadlines came fast
Gotta finish now or else I'm not gonna pass
Drinkin' lots of coffee, and takin' No-Doze,
Then I looked up problem number 1 and I froze

I put it off, now I better get my homework started (I'm doing work - I better!)
I put it off, now I better get my homework started
Get my homework started
{Incoherent mumblings}

Makin' no connections cause I'm too sleep-deprived
I can't figure out how this equation's derived
Suitemate ups the volume, I can feel the beat
Everybody scatters when I come out and shriek!
Friends better not talk to me, I don't have the time,
Know that in the mornin' they'll all hear me whine

I put it off, now I better get my homework started (I'm doing work, for real)
I put it off, now I better get my homework started (I'm doing work, I promise)
I put it off, now I better get my homework started (I'm doing work, I better!)
I put it off, now I better get my homework started
Get my homework started
Get my homework started right now
Get my homework started
Get my homework started
Get my homework started right now

Great job--straight As (I mean, 5s). I'm printing this out and giving it to my daughter!
Johnny D - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Good job! Now how long do you think it will be until somebody on Amiright will write a parody with "Farted" instead of "Started" ? Won't be me! ;-D
neminem - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
"Get My Homework Farted"? I don't think so somehow :-P. Thanks, Johnny and Mason.
Pyromaniac - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I liked it, the pacing confused me a bit, but it was funny. Good job,
neminem - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
The bleep? I made absolutely sure that the pacing was perfect. Every line has exactly the same number of syllables as in the original - perhaps you downloaded the wrong song? You should try harder next time before you vote, Pyro.
Claude Prez - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
"Fart Me Up"? Geez, I hope not. Anyway, very good.
pyromaniac - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
you're a little touchy. anyway i agree on the farting thing, that'd be really weird. Still, good job overall.
Serafina - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Excellent job; I'll give you an 'A' on this parody. ;D
nally - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Ah, yes, I can relate. I keep telling myself not to put things off, but it's a really bad habit. Anyway, 5-5-5.
neminem - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
No, I'm not "touchy", I'm just annoyed when someone gives me a one for no discernable reason. And I know I'm not just wrong, as I've gotten 5 other votes and they've all been 5s. Well, I'm just *assuming* here that you voted 1/4/2, which doesn't look like someone who did a "good job overall" - if I'm wrong, let me know. Otherwise, I'd appreciate hearing why you voted such.
pyromaniac - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
what? 1/4/2? hows that? I gave you a 4-5-5. that doesn't make sense...
neminem - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Ok... look directly above the comments field, you'll notice a voting breakdown. It says one person gave me a one on pacing, so since you mentioned being confused by the pacing and only a couple other people had voted at that point, I just assumed it was you. Sorry for getting mad at you... and whoever *did* vote 1/4/2 should die painfully ;-).
Starlette Victory - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
God, that song sounds so much like me!!!! 5-5-5!!!

Sounds like me, too!

Is it okay if I sing this song to my kids? If history repeats itself, they'll be virtual shut-ins the whole weekend, and they still won't finish their term projects until Sunday night. We may as well spend the first 9/10ths of the weekend at the beach. I'm so glad they're not the only ones that do this! Drives me crazy!
neminem - May 21, 2004 - Report this comment
Feel free, Jango! By the way: I *don't* actually do that very often, as my inclination to procrastinate is countered somewhat both by my nervousness when I have work left to do and my desire to get 8 hours of sleep. So I generally put my work off for a few hours, but still get started long before some of my friends. But no, your children are definitely not the only ones who do that.

jango - May 28, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, my kids have gotten A's so far on their term projects. I guess Sunday night is as good a time as any to get to work...although my youngest got asked to a Lakers game but couldn't go because she hadn't studied for a history final! Ouch!

nem - I'll have to listen to the audio file to weigh in on this. I'll do that during my contest voting sessions.

Thanks all! I still wish pyro had voted 4/5/5 like he said he had, but oh well... I agree that this was one of my best - it is directly proportional to how much fun I had writing it ;-).

nem - Homework I could get started. What I procrastinated on until the VERY, VERY, VERY last minute were things like TERM PAPERS and other writing assignments that would require research and multiple writing sessions to do right. I once had a "Comparative Analysis" of the pricing schemes of companies in the same business that was due in 5th period CAP (Contemporary American Problems) one day. I STARTED writing it in 2ND period that day, and finished it at lunch (5TH period was right after lunch). Hand-written, scribbled in my most miserable, hurried, chicken-scratch scrawl. I used my family's business (we owned a Car Wash, actually a couple of them) and two close-by competitors, so I knew the pricing without having to go do any new research. And I knew how to figure the "real" cost (my example had to do with pricing discounts on the car wash price that were offered when gasoline was purchased. Since I knew all the details it was just a matter of writing it all down coherently - which I wasn't really sure I was doing. Anyway, I handed this mess in, breathed a sign of relief and quickly forgot about it - the weekend was upon us and that meant no school for a couple days. On Monday the teacher started out by saying he was impressed by all the fine essays, yada-yada-yada, but one stood out as an "Outstanding piece of work" or some such B.S., and he goes,. This was so well done I would like you all to hear it , so I'm going to ask the student who wrote it read it out loud to the class." I'm sitting there thinking "poor sap, wonder who it is?". He calls my name. I stagger up front and he hands me my papers with a big, red "A++" at the top. Sh*t, I could barely read my own writing, I have no idea how he could have. So I stumbled my way through reading it as 25 -30 students stared vacantly at the blackboard behind me either trying not to yawn or thinking of whatever they had fun doing over the just completed weekend. You know, that method didn't work at all well in college for some reason...

OH....YEAH...YOUR parody...right...and I just typed a long-moderately amusing comment here dealing with that and lost the whole thing. But fortunately for all of you my "High School Story" remains intact above this. Anyway, I was telling neminem in the one I lost that his parody was so good I wanted him to come up to the front of this Comment Thread and read it out loud for all the other parody writer's. I really thought that quite clever. But anyway, a fine job, for real. 5's...

(ABC) I thought your pacing was spot-on perfect! I really liked the 'incoherent mumblings." In junior high I used to have to do these horrible science notebooks every six weeks; they were always due on a Monday, and I always waited until the last weekend to start. I would shut myself in my room for 48 hours and play Three Dog Night's "Golden Biscuits" over and over (only thing I had on cassette at the time) while I drew diagrams of hydras and parameciums... scary - really scary.

(SOTM) I put it off, now I better get this voting started. Liked this even better than last time, very tightly constructed and good use of the original words.
